Less than two months to go!
Question for those attending: do you want me to try to arrange a tour of Fort Casey again? Last year we got a nice inside tour as it rained when our tour was scheduled, but the option also exists for a walking tour.
Second: we might do a Dutch oven night again and for a few days only, you can get a good starter setup at Woot for a low price. https://tools.woot.com/offers/dutch-...f=w_cnt_wp_4_1. 4, 5, or 6 quart DO (without legs but with a stand that lets it work) and a flat top that also works as a frying surface. If interested in the DO night (or lunch) please comment.

I camp at Keystone all the time (heading out tomorrow for the Musselfest) so am not interested in the fort tour. But the DO night was a lot of fun last year and very interesting and informative. I vote for that.

We would love a tour. Dutch oven potluck would also be fun.
Thanks, Catherine

We may have missed the window for booking a group tour- they say it is full online- but I am asking Jena, our friendly education ranger, to be sure.

We would like to participate in the DO night. We’d love a tour if you can swing it with your Ranger buddy!

It's easy- when we get slightly closer I'll post some info for those who want to try it about what kind of things you can try cooking and what to bring.
This group has been archived but has tons of intro information you can still access and you can scroll through and see lots of ideas for what to cook.

I got into those Dutch ovens when I was scouting and camping every month for 10 years. We had a lot of fun with them and very few failures. Lots of Cookbooks out there and internet information from the International Dutch Oven Society and other state or regional affiliates. Here’s my Christmas Ham from last December.
Be careful you don’t get Castironitis and buy another one and another one and … you get the idea

I cheated and bought a cast aluminum one. SO much lighter and cooks the same way.

That discontinued 16 inch Lodge cast iron job I bought in Panguitch Utah a few years ago weighs somewhere over 30 lbs I think. I’ve never lifted weights but I’ve tramped around with some heavy stuff on my shoulders over the years. But that 16 rides, it doesn’t hike. I have stock in Kingsford Charcoal. It’s like perpetual motion.
If you ever get to sample the fresh peach cobbler that Tonny from Arkansas makes in his 10 inch, don’t go to the potluck wearing socks because that cobbler will knock them off.

Two weeks away!!
Tentative schedule:
Sunday night- a meet and greet, BYOB, bring a snack to share if you want, just a chance to say hello, see who else is arrived, etc. If you are arriving Sunday, let me know when as we could make it before dinner or after, to accommodate late arrivals. (A few of us will be there from Friday I believe.). We may do the same on Monday night depending on arrivals. Volunteers needed to host at their site.
Tuesday night: potluck dinner. This is when I think the most people will be there. Bring a dish to share. Host site needed.
Wednesday night: Dutch oven workshop/potluck. You don't have to participate in cooking to come, bring a salad or something else easy and taste our concoctions. I'll have an extra camp dutch oven if someone wants to try it out. If you have one or want to use one and need recipe ideas just ask me or google CDO cooking, lots out there, or we an easily adapt anything you do in the oven (up to about 350) or stovetop or slow cooker.
To be scheduled: for the dog owners or anyone else who wants to come- a walk on the off leash beach park at Double Bluff. It's about 20 minutes or so to drive down there but it is a great walk with or without a dog and the geology of the area is fascinating. Thinking we will see who is coming, watch the weather report, and pick a good time to go.
Tour: not going to happen! They are still scheduling limited tours but now the teachers know it is back on so those are all full. The lighthouse is open for visiting Friday- Monday 12-4 PM. There is also a brochure available for self-guided tours of the fort, or you can just explore on your own
The Island County historical museum is open most days and has a great exhibit and video on the early settlers in the area. It is in Coupeville, a short drive from the park.
Reminder: for those coming on the ferry from Port Townsend- get your reservations, if you have not yet. It tends to be safest to schedule midday as the route has had frequent crew shortages usually for the evening runs, and late afternoon also tends to be when wind cancellations hit
PS, I haven't forgotten to add Tommy, just can't edit the list, so I figured I'd wait for any last minute changes before reposting it!
