We just bought the six sided one after seeing one on our trip to Florida and love it. Very easy to set up and good size. We thought the four sided one would be a bit small.

We use this Coleman screen tent, and it really does setup in no time. Easiest one (by far) to setup of ones we have owned. Coleman Instant

Of course, it is likely that any awning in a 90kph wind could cause damage to the trailer.

The video also shows a "smart room" attachment, a screen/add-a-room attachment for this type of awning.

The awning seems to have been marketed in Europe as the Dometic Premium.
The awning is also effective in picking up women.
Family fun. Shows the room attachment too. Sure wouldn't want auto-retract to work with this though.
Another stress test

I wonder how ETI will incorporate the builtin ridge on the 5.0 for the awning, will it be level or follow the roof line, do you know Jim?

After watching the u-tube videos on the awning, it looks like it's going to be a very nice improvement and all the hoopla-la was for not. Even has a screen room. Weather Reese will add it as an option is yet to be seen. If enough poeple ask for it I'm sure he will consider it. Anyways good job Reese!

I don't believe it will be recessed following the ridge, instead be flush and level. Being level to me is more important, otherwise it would look, and work, strange. Time will tell though.

Were not the first awnings on the 5.0 at a slant?

I think stress cracks developing in the fiberglass is also another possibility.
Sure shows the advantage of being able to use flopper stoppers on the conventional awning. Without them the awning billows up and that adds to the stress.
Time will tell.

I don't use flopper stoppers, but when setting up, I pull down on the awning arms to put them under tension, as I tighten the the black knobs on the upper support arms.
Got caught in one surprise wind ( and rain and lightening ) storm in southern Alberta. Didn't dare try to take the awning down for fear that releasing the arms would tear it from my grip. I just hung on for dear life.

wish i could have them install the Fiamma f45 instead. All manual, bulletproof. They would probably charge me full price for the Fiamma and then not credit me for the dometic. Seems to be their M.O.

It wouldn't hurt to ask . I think the new one unless sunny , no breeze is going to be a problem . I would not have a problem with the Fiamma either with it's supports . Just my opinion . Pat

I'm planning on asking about that as well. I would think a credit of their cost for the Dometic would be reasonable, and then an upcharge for installing something they are not familiar with. I want something lite and have no interest in a motorized awning because we almost never use them. I had my Arctic Fox for 2 years and never once deployed it! On our first trailer we used it about 3 times in 2 years.
When I saw that the Dometic was going to be mandatory it almost caused me to look elsewhere, but I'm hoping in the next year before my 19' enters production there will be other options for those of us who don't want a big heavy complicated awning.
