I raised this question about 5 months ago, ergo my address is now Chilliwack....
I do not remember seeing it before and if FB is secure why can't our forum be the same?

Only if you are doing your banking through ETI.
This has been discussed before and is a non-issue.

As already mentioned, no.
Also, nothing has changed about site security, but Google changed the way Chrome displays the status of web sites a while ago (and other browsers may have changed as well), so now people notice what didn't bother them before.

Janet (admin) made a post about site security back in April. If you're concerned, read here.. direct link: http://www.escapeforum.org/forums/f3...tml#post286496

If I recall they only secured the registration page here which meets the minimum standards. Best practice is to secure the entire site which is why you’ll see the secured lock on most all major corporate websites now.
I secured all of my websites back when Google set the deadlines for compliance, since it didn’t add any additional labor or cost to secure the entire site. Guess they made a decision here to just go reg page only, maybe the software used for these forums caused issues to secure the whole thing easily.

What would be the point? What's to steal?

Many reasons, but most are technical nature and don’t need to be discusssed.
Biggest reason is trust. When visitors see a website isn’t secure nowadays, many won’t ever go to a reg page to sign up as they assume the whole site has not been secured. You also get issues like Jim illustrated above where he feels he needs to put in a false location, which is not a bad security practice on the internet in general secured or not.

I don't get it. Anybody can sign up as a member and read the information that other members post, including their profile. If you don't post your bank account# and PIN in your profile, or if your name is Donna D and your photo is fake, what would be gained?
It's a public forum.

this site is running vBBS, which is an absolute pig, then its loaded down with tons of spamvertising, which makes it even worse.

Ads pay for the site maintenance.
I think I'll set up a "Group" for criminals and see if anybody signs up.

The site is verrrry slow once again. ANd, there are only 145 users on the site right now. Why? (he asks!)
