Dumb question-propane furnace sail switch

On the Facebook Escape Forums someone just posted a picture of their brand new Escape 19. Their picture is of the driver's side and there is no access port to the furnace sail switch. Has Escape ceased making the port? No one on the forum has noticed this, and am wondering if only the '17 -partway thru the '19 model years are the only ones with this feature.

The one that doesn't have an exhaust port at all for the furnace?

That is the one! The furnace is not an option, but the A.C. is...can an Escape be ordered without a furnace?

I see a light on that side but no furnace.

That's one way to solve the sail switch issue.

Yes, it can be deleted. So can stove/exhaust hood, table, and likely other things. Our 19 had hood deleted to make more head room.

Got the answer on Facebook. The owner deleted the furnace. Wow, talk about a custom trailer, thought the furnace was mandatory. We for certain would never be without both A.C and a furnace.

Depends where you live and how you camp. You're from Arizona, so AC, and apparently you camp without services, so furnace.

We're from Minnesota and nearly deleted the AC and the range hood. We have yet to use the AC, and had to add bumpers on the range hood to stop scalp scars. I would rather have had another Maxx Fan instead of the AC. Too late though.

Enjoy,

Perry

Well, I'm in Arizona right now, and my furnace runs every night, even with the thermostat set at 60°F. I'd miss it!

On an Escape, built in Canada, the furnace is standard equipment (but can be deleted), and the air conditioner is optional.
On a Casita, built in Texas, the air conditioner is standard equipment in the DLX versions (option in the STD versions), and the furnace is optional (in all versions).

I see a pattern here...

Fortunately, with either brand one can get whatever heating and cooling combination you want.

I to thought it had to have a furnace to meet certain regulations for the stickers applied to the camper? They could almost eliminate propane if always hooked up? May as well have an Eggcamper.

The a/c is an option but the hood and furnace are standard. No credit is given for deletion of standard items, so you are paying for it so why not have it and not use it?

Escape staff have stated in the past that there are some modifications which they can't make, because it would change the design of a system (typically electrical or propane) from what they normally build and certify to meet CSA and/or RVIA requirements. They also will not leave an unconnected (capped off) propane line in the interior, which I think has been an issue for people wanting to install their own stove, and was at one time an issue for people wanting a non-propane refrigerator.

With only the refrigerator, stove, oven, water heater, and furnace burning propane, and all of those items potentially unnecessary (especially if the shower is also deleted) and either optional or able to be deleted, it could possibly be done.

OTOH, if you're from Arizona and only camp with electric services, a simple electric heater (we have a Honeywell) is all you need, and there is no sail switch to fool with.

We like to camp in places without electric services. I've cleaned our sail switch four times and replaced it once. Plus, we were dumb enough to purchase the new/improved sail switch that we found out later didn't fit our furnace. Now we have two spare sail switches.

Enjoy,

Perry

But the Escape comes with the propane heater included, no additional cost, in fact they may charge extra to eliminate it? It is not an option where it costs extra. just does not make sense.

The fastest way to have an all electric travel trailer is to NOT open the propane bottle(s). Carry an electric cube heater, electric appliance(s) for cooking. Run the refrigerator on electric and heat water on your electric stove appliance.
