Annular Eclipse in NM

All those who gambled and came to New Mexico to see the Annular Eclipse are being rewarded for their gamble with clear, blue sky this morning. The eclipse is set to begin here at our location shortly and the Ring of Fire should be visible in ~ 1:15 at 10:35am. I am set up to attempt to photograph the event and have my Sony A7R IV with Sony 100-400 GM lens with proper ND filter, with camera mounted on tripod. Hope this works out as I have not attempted to photgraph an eclipse before!

We normally get out of town for Balloon Fiesta but this year we stayed for the eclipse. Perfect viewing from our backyard with a fire in the fire pit and steaming mugs of coffee.

DRAT! I'll never see another and I DIDN'T see this one! This should probably be posted in the "What's Out Your Back Window" thread, because this is what I saw.... there's mountains over that lone tree... can't see them either. DOUBLE DRAT!

My neither. Heavy cloud here. At best we would have seen an about 75% eclipse. It was a little darker for a short time. Oh well, we need the rain.

Annular eclipse was perfect here in Valley of the Gods, in southeast Utah. We had 4 Escapes all lined up. We came several days early to secure a good location, and of course lots of folks filled in over time. Good eclipse today, tho'.

Well, the Annular Eclipse was fun! It got progressively darker (like evening) and noticeably colder as the eclipse developed. We must have been slightly east of the center of the shadow track so we did not have the complete moon's shadow laying exactly centered over the sun but it came pretty close.

We had clouds this morning that cleared. Just got back from a walk where I noticed the sun getting brighter and brighter, but I never looked up. I missed the eclipse, should have put a calendar event in my phone. Quadruple drat!

We were, at best, going to see 20% here in Oswego, but heavy clouds prevented even that. Hope for better on April 8th when we are suppose to see 100%. Of course, April is one of our cloudiest months...

Yes, it really got cooler. I was somewhat surprised. For those who missed the annular, don't forget the total eclipse on April 8, 2024.

We got around 67% coverage in western Florida. I went out at noon to check it out and noticed the eerie, direct but subdued sunlight. I noticed the same strange light in Idaho before and after totality during the 2017 total eclipse.

Landscape photographers: if you know a partial solar eclipse will be seen in your area, I suggest you ignore the eclipse itself and use the unusual light to photograph stuff on the ground. The light is like morning and afternoon " golden hour" light but more overhead with smaller shadows. It might make for some good images; too bad I didn't think of this ahead of time.

Going on the cheap with my photos. The shadows were neat, with all the crescents. It was perceptibly cooler and dimmer for about 40 minutes in the time leading up to and after annularity. The sky didn't return to full brightness until over an hour after the peak. The eclipse photo just uses a piece of paper and a piece of cardboard with a nail hole punched through it. The better photo is from a neighbor, Steve Dunn, using a camera filter. We were just on the edge of annularity for this eclipse, but we'll be in the path of totality for the total eclipse coming in 2024. Click image for larger version

We had looked at a map of the annular eclipse, decided that the place to be was the Torrey-Capitol Reef area. A few very thin clouds, but pretty good altogether.
