Please feel free to critique my decisions.....

The following route has been followed in the past for our cross country trip to Chilliwack/Osoyoos. Feel free to make suggestions or changes....

I76(turnpike) west to Ohio and Indiana to Indianapolis to catch
I74 north to Galesburg,Il and then Davenport, Ia.
Then we jump onto I80 west to Omaha,Ne to I29 north to Sioux Falls, Ia
to catch I90 west to Spokane,Wa and US2 north to Osoyoos. Looks like 6 different roads to traverse.

Why in the world would you prefer a hurry-up-and-rush pace, when you have a nice camping trailer and you like to camp? The longer you take to get there, the more nights of leisurely camping and sightseeing you'll have. Take your time, enjoy the journey! Make it a week-long trip at the least!

Or are you starring in a remake of "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World"?

Hi Jim,
From the Davenport I 80 location westward I have taken the route described several times. However we are side trip travelers and a very very long day for us is 500 miles, usually the first day. That takes us from our home to the Missouri River in South Dakota. Then it’s 350 or 400 or less every day. So we take 5 or 6 days to go 2200 miles. And that’s on the way out because we have Mid May commitments at home. On the way back we take 10 days or more. I think the most days spent for the Osoyoos trip was 21 or 22 days. We’ve gone to Chilliwack about every time we went to Osoyoos for service or improvements. We have camped as far north as Hinton, Alberta and south and west to the Redwoods. Always a side trip to the Grand Coulee Dam. There, I have a bottle of beer and do a little singing with Woody.
We won’t be going this year but are looking to head west…somewhere.

We have 5 cats that we need to have someone come twice daily to feed and take care of while we are gone, reason for the somewhat "rush" out and back. Dogs are traveling with us and I'm sure after 2 weeks they will be glad to be home!

Ever try traveling with your cats? Some do pretty well with it. Maybe you could take a short camping trip before May and see....

After all, you need time to stop in Iowa and visit Dave!

I have many fond memories of Iowa, I attended college there in the late 60's where partying in the corn fields was the "norm" so to speak....

Just fill your house up with a bunch of mice from the pet store, fill your sinks & tubs with some drinking water, fill up ones of those hard kiddy pools with some nice kitty litter and you should be good for a month.

5 cats + 200 mice = A Wild Kingdom Cat Adventure.

Having been born in Omaha, I have been to Davenport. My dad's favorite quip is, "It's just above Footstool."

Years ago I was at a state wide parks and recreation conference. A nice lady from Keokuk, Iowa in the far Southeast corner of the state made a pitch for hosting the next year’s meeting in her town which is quite a bit smaller than the towns that were usually chosen. She had a good presentation which included an invitation to visit Keokuk anytime anyone was in the area.

She said “We’re just south of Quad Cities on Highway 61. You’ll have to slow down or you could drive through town and miss us. If that happens, you’ll be in Misery.”
Didn’t get the bid but should have in my opinion.

Hey, new grocery ads today that are good through Christmas. I gotta buy a ham to cook in the 14’ deep Dutch oven for Christmas dinner. And some cool whip for pie.

I traveled a similar route this summer, except I took I-380 through Cedar Rapids, IA to US-20 to I-35 to I-90. I hate the I-80 heavy traffic 'racetrack' and this routing gave me many more miles on scenic and sedate I-90.

I can't comment on the route, but I am wondering about the time as others have done. 40 hours of driving in three and 1/2 days means the truck and trailer "never" stops for gas, food, toilets, or to walk the dogs and humans.

I am thinking you will be exhausted when you arrive at Nk'Mip and then again when you get home.

You are a star at Escape and will be welcome regardless. I wonder whether you might consider flying out, staying at a hotel, and joining in all the fun at Nk'Kip except for the camping bit. Bring an extra suitcase for the trading tarps. And you can still enter the "Name the 2024 rally" contest!

Re: time allotted. I have held this schedule for many trips, but I'm getting older and wiser....we will see if I can continue...my wife can not drive at night so I should be able to rest some during the daylight. In addition, the days are a lot longer in May and nightfall is a lot later than it is now!

Yup, it's not like you haven't done it before.

Since you've done it that way before, you at least have a sound basis for your expectations. And your wife will do some of the driving, which I didn't think about; that makes a huge difference.

Everyone has his/her own preferred pattern. I travel solo, and two days in a row of 9-10 hours drive time is about my limit! But I have a buddy who does hotshot deliveries, and he is a total "driving machine." It takes all kinds in this world.

US2 is an east - west route. You would need to turn off 2 to US97 to get to Osoyoos. You could cut the corner from US2 to US97 via a couple of different routes if you want. Each of them is scenic but not especially fast driving roads.
