We have the front window. We close the cover at night, solving potential condensation problems (it's tempered glass and dual pane not available). There's also a shade over the window, so it's plenty dark for sleeping.
One problem we discovered was that the slots in the cover's gasket weren't aligned with the weep holes in the window frame. This allowed runoff (rain) to partially fill the space between the window and cover. Not a great thing (promoted corrosion of the cover's latches, making them hard to open), so I took a knife to the gasket. Now it works like it should... But damage to the latches occurred and next up is a quest to replace those latch handles. May whittle something out of wood...

I regret not having a couple of extra 110V outlets - one under the seating area at the rear for computer power & chargers and one over the head of the bed for our electric blanket & clock radio. Also, a 12 v outlet on the exterior driver side for 12 v tire pump, water transfer pump, etc. Basically impossible to have too many power sources.

Yes it is, protects your electrical components from wiring and electrical hazards. Cheap insurance.

I don't have A/C and I avoid full service parking lots. I don't have a surge protector, but it would probably give me peace of mind. Not enough to add one though.

And very good surge protectors can be purchased at any time. They will connect directly to the power post on an as-needed basis.

I installed residential , commercial and industrial wiring for over 40 years. I have installed maybe 5 surge protectors in residences and maybe 25 in commercial applications in those 40 years . I don't have surge protection in my trailer or my home and if we buy a new Escape it won't be one of my options. I have a case of surge protection receptacles somewhere that have been sitting around for 20 years that I'll probably never use.

I've been an electrical engineer for over 40 years for multi million dollar systems and have recommended / required that any critical or sensitive equipment have surge protection.
That said, RV parks are known to have horrible electrical systems. Reversed wiring, poor grounding, under voltage, over voltage, etc are common issues. These issues will affect your A/C, fridge, TV, radio, etc. to the detriment of their service life.
It's your trailer and your money - my trailer has the surge protector.

We would not be without an EMS. When we sold our 19', we left the EMS in because we consider it important and wanted the next owners to have it. We had Escape put another one in the 21'. We have used the trailers a lot and I have lost count of how many times the EMS found problems.

Most homes contain computers and computer controlled appliances but few have surge protection . There is a place for surge protection. IE "critical "and highly "sensitive" equipment
The parameters of many surge protectors are set so tight that they trip well below a level that will cause any damage to most household equipment. Putting surge protection on your toaster or fry pan or water heater or the majority of appliances in a trailer is not warranted.
Voltage fluctuations are present in all electrical utility systems not just in RV parks . Check the voltage in your neighborhood when people are running their air conditioners.
I wired several large Casino RV parks and the installations all passed electrical inspection for code compliance , proper voltage , polarity, grounding , voltage drop , fault current and overcurrent protection
There is a place for surge protection and it works but I am not convinced that a travel trailer warrants that expense.
Most travel trailers do not have surge protection yet we don't see wide spread damage occurring.

Really! Most homes that I have visited have surge protectors similar to this on their computer systems and large TVs.
Oh, and there are a number of RV owners that have had their converters blown by bad RV park circuits. I personally had a pedestal burn on me while visiting a RV park at the Grand Canyon. It didn't hurt anything on my trailer as the surge protector tripped.
I assume you did not wire that one.

Rarely do I see surge protection in a house around here. The odd person does it for their computers, but that is it. I did get it for my trailer, but almost didn't.

I want to apologize to the OP. This thread had taken a major diversion from the original topic and has little to do with the initial thread. It seems that keeping on subject is harder than herding cats.

EMS is like a contraceptive for your trailer, safe electricity versus unsafe, simple. If you ever leave your trailer unattended with the a/c operating and there is a brown out in the cg, it will protect your unit. If you plug in a miswired outlet, it will protect your unit. If there was an electrical storm miles away and a surge went through the lines, it will protect your unit. Simple but effective.
