One thought I had was that one side effect of the price increases is to create space at the low end for a future smaller trailer. A moderately optioned 17b is now around 30k USD, so you might expect a 15ish foot trailer to come in in the mid 20s. (In today’s US dollars)

They've already done that. And a 13'. And abandoned the models.

They are working on a new smaller trailer. They talked about it in one of the q&a videos. I think they said it was the next product development project after the 23 is finished

The 15 cost as much to make as the 17 and they had to sell it for less that’s why they dropped that size. Not sure what has changed to bring it back.

It tells me that ETI has moved their prices and subsequently their profit margins high enough to justify building a smaller trailer now.

What GregandTeresa said about the pricing increase for the E19 since they bought theirs in 2016 shows the fact that prices have outdistanced inflation by a large measure.

Do you remember what Q&A video that was mentioned in. I’ve watched all of the videos but might have missed that.

It is indeed. Our 2015 19 is loaded with options and we paid 28.3K USD. Of course, that was back when there was one price for everyone, regardless of country.

It’s at the very end of this video. At about 32 minutes. Of course plans may have changed. They talk about making it out of new materials, so it may be marketed as more of a premium lightweight trailer rather than one step down from the E17. https://youtu.be/8NOBY33u__A

Exchange rate definitely hurting US customers more. From ETI email: "2022 pricing has now been released on our website.

US Customers

2022 base and options prices are increasing by approx. 10.4%.

Canadian Customers

2022 base and options prices are increasing by approx. 5.6%."

You have said that, three times. Buy another trailer; one that hasn't raised prices.

Have you checked lumber lately? How about major appliances... if you can even find any for sale.

You really need to research before you post a ridiculous post like this.

Reminds me of someone who procrastinated and missed The Great Exchange Rate of 2016. So what? I had to pay Full Boat for a new Ford Transit and am now hearing of dealers charging way over MSRP due to shortages. Inflation is real.

I think your first theory was correct. When the 2021 prices were set, the exchange rate was about 76 cents US to the CAD. Now at 80 cents.... but the fact that it's been even worse for the USD shows ETI that they must assume it could go back in that direction, and they must cover for that likelihood in their new pricing.

Not a chance. Even the bare shell and frame is not going to be cheaper to build in proportion to length, and the chassis components, appliances, as well as parts for the heating, water, waste, and electrical systems would cost just as much for the smaller trailer as the larger size.

The differential between the USD vs CDN$ increase is fully justified by the exchange rate movement since the publication of 2021 price list. From my records, we got that sometime in the August of 2020. At that time, 1 USD bought between 1.31-1.32 CDN$, Currently, 1 USD buys between 1.24-1.25 CDN$. So, the differential is right about there. In fact, CDN$ is one of the better performing currencies whereas US economy is showing inflationary trends - and the futures prices reflect that.

Furthermore, while a portion of the ETIs costs are in USD, a larger share of its revenue comes in USD. It the PE company that owns ETI is well run, they must be hedging their exposure on the exchange rate movements and that is ultimately passed along the cost to customer.

Once the role of exchange rate movement understood, the rest is easy to understand in terms of a combination of price inflation in their raw materials/components and, yes, likely increased markup in a seller’s market for campers. So, the price increases seem very understandable.

I believe you'll find that...

In 2020 (2021 builds) ETI increased prices on Canadian customer units (CAD) but not on US (USD) customer units. In 2021 (2022 builds) they are raising prices more on the US units & less on the Canadian units to reflect a variety of changed market conditions & the fact that US units did not incur a price increase in 2020.

Correct me if that is not the case.
