Some amount of guarantee that if I make the deposit there's only a specific relative percentage (5-10%) window in which projected prices can move, maybe? Excluding a dramatic and unforeseen macroeconomic trend during which, if forced to honor existing price agreements, would cause ETI to go out of business. In which case, the deposit would be fully refunded if it goes outside of agreed parameters.

IDK I'm not an expert on pretty much anything. Just an idea.

ETI could have hundreds of orders coming in and being cancelled by those who found a used trailer they could get sooner.

Apparently Scamp does refund the full amount ( don't count on it ).

So there was never a price increase by Escape Trailer Industries in the years that the founders owned it? I don't think that's true.

I think in my example the $500 is fair value to ETI, they would just add a price change outlook and allow you a full refund if it exceeds the outlook conveyed to you. I don't think this idea would cause them to have a totally fuzzed order flow. They would still collect your $500 if you bought used instead.

For me they only kept $150 for processing fees which is reasonable to me...

Currently,

You put down $2k and if you cancel before signing off on the build sheet then you're refunded all but $150.

There was always a price increase, but it was figured in when i made my deposit. The only increases after that were for the upgrades and additions which had the prices included in the build sheet

I think prices were guaranteed through 2021. I don't think its unreasonable for a price increase for 2022 trailers. I'm going to have to pony up with 2022 prices. I don't think its fair that lumber prices (us) are up about 130% or so and steel even higher. I don't now what percentage fiberglass and resin are up but its significant. Totally reasonable for a biz to pass these costs on to end consumer to either buy or not...I'm hoping for 5% but Its wishful thinking, lol

I’m pretty sure in one of Escape’s latest update videos Karl Kenny said the price increase for 2022 should be at a level of 5%, and he attributed that to increased vendor and materials cost. Also, it has been stated up front that the $2000 deposit is fully refundable less the credit card processing fee of $150. This is the case up to the point the buyer signs off on the build sheet. Seems reasonable enough to me.

That does seem fair. I have been watching tons of their videos lately but not all. I think I'll go ahead with the deposit. I already have a pretty good idea about the options too. Time to settle in for a long wait... unfortunate timing, but I am ready and overdue for a change of pace in my life!!

Okay, that makes sense: locking in prices at deposit time. It has become common to take deposits with no guarantee of the price (as is now done on coming models of vehicles, mostly electric), but in that case the deposit should be fully refundable, and the customer must understand the terms.

I don't blame any company for choosing not to lock in the price at deposit time with a substantial delay and uncertain conditions before production.

Houses are up.
Land is up
Food is up
Car prices are up
Fuel is up
Energy is up
Trailer prices staying the same? Not likely.
