Alf is always chock-full of one-liners, so here's one back at him!

I have the rubber chocks from Harbor Freight. They seem to have done the job well enough for many years, but the first pair I bought (maybe 9-10 years old now?) have gotten brittle from UV and cracked somewhat. They don't last forever.

Here is my update after a few years.

I use Bal X-chocks that Escape sold me. They work great. I have Goodyear Endurance tires and they fit fine.

I use them to keep the trailer steady when camped in the same place for a few days and unhooking from the truck. I do not use them when we travel every day. Particularly if I do not detach the truck.

I do use them if there is a big slope right behind the trailer and I unhook, just to be sure.

They do keep the trailer steady which is nice in the early hours when I am up and my wife is sleeping. They do look more secure when on, impossible to take off without the wrench.

BAL used to have statements that the x-chocks were not to be used in place of regular wheel chocks for making the trailer safe from rolling. The seem to have backed off on this somewhat but if you read carefully, none of their literature says to use the x-chock in place of regular chocks, just they they prevent fore/aft movement that makes a trailer uncomfortable.

https://balrvproducts.com/why-use-ba...railer-chocks/

NOTE: BAL’s chocks are designed for locking trailer tires when camping. They should be put in place after disconnecting from your tow vehicle and after putting down your stabilizing jacks. They should be removed prior to hooking up to your tow vehicle. Failure to do so may damage your chocks. To avoid undesired trailer movement when disconnecting or hooking up to your tow vehicle, a tire “wedge” should be firmly placed behind one, or preferably both rear trailer tires.

They refer to a regular chock as a "wedge".

I never have noticed a trailer rocking or moving enough to be annoying, but I have a set of x-chocks because a friend spotted them on Facebook for half pirce and they were only used once or twice. It was close to me and I had the money burning a hole in my pocket. I think I paid $40 or $45 for a pair of them. I use them if the trailer is to be in the same spot for a couple or three days.

I’m new to the world of using chocks between axels, what are you switching from and why?

Thanks

Very poor instructions from BAL. Saying that you should use a "wedge" behind one or more tires! You should chock both sides of the tires before unhooking. Chocking only one side doesn't stop the trailer from rolling in the other direction. If they mean both sides they should say so. Some folks read instructions and take them literally.

Lot's of times I don't use anything if remaining hooked up over night. Sometimes I just put down the rear stabilizers. When detached it's basic chocks and stabilizers only. Any detectable movement is just part of being in the trailer for us.
