Border closure
So Canada is keeping their border closed to non essential travel for another month. The US so far has not said if they will follow suit. If they don’t that means Canadians can come down to the US but can they get back into Canada? Interesting….

Those damn Canadians, eh!
Alberta will be the first province to lift covid restrictiins on July 01, other provinces are further behind in vaccinations and targets will take a bit longer to reach.
I heard lots of news on this today, but nothing about the U. S. allowing Canadians in. Did I miss something?

As far I’ve seen the US has not voiced what they are planning on doing which is interesting. All the other extensions have been a dual announcement.

Hey Jim- you mean Damn Yankees am sure. You Canucks learned from the Hawaiians who loved no mainlanders(or anyone else) for over a year. New Zealand the same.
As Perry would say- Enjoy

I feel for all the Canadian businesses that depend on tourism (fishing camps and so on). I hope they can hang on.

Jim,
What is the implication of Alberta lifting restrictions? Does that mean US citizens can travel to Alberta, or is that restrictions for Alberta citizens?
Thanks

The Canadian federal government, together with the US federal government determines when the border will open.

This only lifts most restrictions Albertans have been living under. As baglo said, international borders are a federal matter.
Most folks are pretty excited, though a few think it is too early. Myself, very eager to dump restrictions, and get more hugs. [emoji16]

It was definitely Trudeau leading the extension. Only time will tell.

I still suspect that when the border is opened, crossing will be conditioned upon showing proof of vaccination.

I have a form from the VA 'verifing' mine. Saw a comment on one of the news sites, ( Fox , I think) that there was already a brisk market for counterfeits.
Had to happen.

Not at all surprised. My sister just drove home to Alaska- Covid test 3 days before, another at the border, and that's when both of them were fully vaccinated. Same restrictions of not visiting anything on the way through.

Peace arch State Park Blaine Washington
This is the only location that Canadians and Americans can mingle in freedom. The husbands and wives and girlfriends and boyfriends, have the tents set up at one end of the park. the family get-togethers use the rest of the park. For a good number of my friends in Blaine this is the only way they can see the rest of their family that live in Canada and vice a versa. I saw a news report that one woman traveled from Louisiana to see her boyfriend. I'm sure they had a long discussion in the tent section.

From CDC.gov COVID-19 in Canada
Because of the current situation in Canada, all travelers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19 variants.

The highly virulent Delta Variant is a major concern according to the federal Public Health Agency (Canada).
Concerns extend to talk of a potential fourth wave this fall.
With any Covid wave comes a political tsunami of potential lockdowns. A pretty good chart of things here in Canada for those interested.

Annual Covid shots will likely become the norm. Best to invest in biochemistry & big Pharma.

Regrettably, all joking aside you're absolutely correct. 19 and its variance will be with us like the common cold. Major pharmaceutical companies are already working up booster shots very similar to what is done with flu today. The real problem continues today being either the failure to be vaccinated for political reasons or the individuals who have had 19 and are dealing with the aftermath. Several individuals I know personally are dealing with the aftermath with either brain fog or one of them is had a full-blown heart attack.

And the fewer that are vaccinated, the more Covid can mutate to something we aren't ready for.

Does not look like there will be US citizens embarking on non-essential travel to Canada this year, unfortunately.

I’m thinking they will open the border most likely August September timeframe. By that time vaccinated people will be higher. They can’t keep the border closed too much longer as a lot of travel industries are really suffering on both sides.
