I bought four Dickinson products from them directly. I got a really good discounted price from that shown on the website.

Has anyone done the Suburban-Dickinson swap yet in a 17-B? Our cousins have a new-to-them 2019 17-B. Uncertain how their soapy water leak test went… Seems like there is also concern for vibration loosening fittings as one travels down the road.
May have missed discussion of this in my preliminary search. Thanks!

Be careful in the 17. When Escape would install the Dickinson by customer request this did not include the 17 due to the clearance to the furnace that is mounted below. Doesn't mean it's impossible. Also if the stove happened to be turned 90 degrees to increase counter space I wouldn't put the high output burner of the Dickinson that close to the back wall.

I tried to buy a BBQ from Dickinson, but their price was way higher than Steveston Marine on sale. When I asked why, Dickinson told me to buy it from Steveston.

Thanks rubicon327: All good points. I guess flipping the lower output burner towards the back would put the control knobs in back, making it a left-hand reach for them if I understand the geometry of the space correctly. Didn’t realize that the furnace is directly below in the 17… Still, the prospect of a propane explosion is motivating for finding a proven alternative.

Not sure how the construction ultimately compares to the Suburban but this SMEV/Dometic unit appears to use the same base pan so cut-out dimensions should be identical to the Suburban SDS2. Puts the controls out to the left and lower output burner towards the back which would work if you have the stove turned 90 degrees.

Looks exactly like the SDS2 except the burner grates are different. Unless you make sure the nuts are tight on the burner adjustment mechanism you'll probably have the same problem.
Enjoy,
Perry

Possibly. Was hoping since it is a different manufacturer that the design details might be different underneath.
But you are right…needs to be confirmed. Many products are the same with just a few tweaks and rebranded.
