Adding Electric Jack on Old 21'

I removed the propane tray - redrilled the mounting holes 15/16” farther forward than the original holes , tapped the holes in the frame for 1/4-20 SS bolts , painted and remounted the propane tray
I stacked 3- 2” nylon washer on the bolts between the tray and the frame to prevent rubbing and trapping moisture
The propane cover fits snuggly / squarely between the electric jack and the front storage box
I applied some self stick foam on the front and rear of the propane cover so it does not rub / scratch the jack or the storage box
I also pop riveted a piece of aluminum flat stock along the bottom edge of the propane tank cover ( Front & rear) and drilled holes for the hook on the retaining bungee to pass through.

** The plastic retaining hook flaps on the propane cover were starting to tear **

We are in the same situation, hoping we can splice in to the red wire before this point instead of going into the trailer and splicing in the box. It will be such a pain to get access to the box under the bed. Did you have any success with this? See post 17 that has a picture that shows the red wire and it's location under the trailer. For that matter, could we splice in to that wire anywhere along the conduit? See new picture below.

Alternatively, there is a box on the drivers side of the tongue, looks like it's for the trailer breakaway cable. Can that be used?

The upper right shows the wiring harness coming into the trailer junction box, including the black (+12v) wire connected to lug #2, also shown in black.

Three wires connect to the trailer side of lug #2: the 8awg wire to the battery, the wire to the breakaway switch, and the wire to the power jack. So, in concept your idea to tie the power jack into the breakaway switch makes sense as it is going to the correct lug. I can’t advise you on using the breakaway switch wire for double duty. It seems unlikely that the breakaway switch and the power jack would be used at the same time.

Notice that the diagram shows a 30 amp fuse leading to the power jack and that the jack is grounded to the frame. Notice also that neither the power jack nor the breakaway switch run through the battery disconnect.

What you don’t want to do is tie into the wire returning from the breakaway switch back into the trailer and connecting to lug#7. That wire is hot only when the cable is pulled.

Thank you Viajante. We were able to make it work by tying into that line. This electric jack will make hitching up with our new WD hitch so much easier!
