Confirming Escape is pre-wired for AC

I’m purchasing a 2014 Escape 5.0. The Escape company and the owners say it’s pre-wired for AC, which they didn’t have installed when they bought it. How can I check for that, myself? Or can I? Thank you.

3 ways. You could just take my word for it, it is. My 2014 E19 was.

Or, undo the two screws holding on the converter panel cover. It hinges down. See the yellow wire at the bottom that says "Ready" it also says "A/C Ready".

Or pull off the trim ring on the hatch and you'll see the other end of that yellow wire.

I’d go with what Ron says.

Plus, I can’t recall anything I’ve read on here about someone needing to install wiring for an A/C

I've seen the yellow Romex wire when changing my hatch cover on my 2014 21. It was also there on my 2010 17B.

Same deal with my 2013 19. Wires already there, waiting for me, ran from the ceiling right to the WFCO.

Marjorie,
You can easily check as Ron instructed but you should have the wire. Bear in mind that this is just a 120V AC power wiring from the power center to the A/C roof opening. There is breaker or prewiring for controls. Do yourself a favor and consider the Houghton A/C units available from RecPro. They are much quieter than anything available from Coleman or Dometic. They also have a remote control, so you do not have to worry about wired controls.

Been looking over that RecPro 9.5K -- as a replacement for my very loud 13.5 Dometic a/c -- well it really is a great temptation. If I could find someone to buy my Dometic well, that could reduce the hit to my wallet and change the playing field for me.

This was supposed to say there is NO breaker or pre wiring for controls.

Hey Myron. We replaced our dometic wind tunnel unit last yr. Very quite. So nice to just talk instead of almost yelling at each other. Biggest plus is it doesn’t wake us up like the dometic did sometimes. We put the dometic up for sale on Facebook marketplace and sold it 4 days later. Especially now that people are Ck out their Rv and finding their acs have gone bad. Your old dometic unit sell fairly quickly.

I suspect many RV owners haven’t heard about the Houghton units yet or they just want the cheapest unit they can find. I’m sure someone will buy Myron’s Dometic jet engine for $500.

Well that is encouraging, and if it happens I would jump right on it. Big issue of course is the gamble of getting it off the roof (me not being a spring chicken no more), and having to ship that thing if nobody local is willing to come pick it up.

I only advertised local on the site. No shipping involved. Met at a local gas station in the afternoon. could of sold several more if I’d had them
