Custom Lagun Table Top

I'm looking for a custom sized table top for my Lagun Mount. Due to lack of time during my busy work season now, and my lack of woodworking skills, I'd love to just order one online. Any suggestions for where to order from?

When I converted my dinette to a U-shaped and added the Lagun, I simply cut down the existing table top to use temporarily. I'd love to replace it with something much nicer...

No suggestion, other than

If it's your busy season, have a local cabinet shop cut a sheet of hardwood plywood of your choice, band it with some material and you do the finishing. 3 coats of varnish would protect. Other than that, DIY, after the busy season. 'Ya got a table now.

Or go searching the web. Your difficulty with that may be in finding a useable size in width and length, material and look.

FYI. I've used 1/2" maple ply for mine. Saves some weight, you don't need strength, and you can make it look thicker by using wider banding. The banding I used is "iron on", flexible maple. The big box stores carry it in oak, maple, cherry and maybe others like walnut. A hot melt, heat activated glue is on the backside. Iron the banding on, and it works with radiused corners.

What are you thinking you'd like to have your top made of and look like?

P.S. Good looking dawgs.

Have you tried entering "custom table top" in Google search?

When I do that I get both local-maker hits as well as national online sources.

Thanks for these thoughts...honestly I'm not sure yet what I want, I was hoping to see some examples on here of what some others have done for ideas. Send me a pic of yours!

Sadly, the retriever in my profile pic just crossed over the rainbow bridge right after the first of the year So now we are down to 1 dog, but putting feelers out there to rescue another...

Well sure but isn't it more fun to interact with all you folks on this forum? Plus then sometimes I get trustworthy reviews of the some of the services, if people here have used any with success. That said, yes I had some success finding some on Etsy that look pretty good...

But, but.......

Isn't this your busy season? Shouldn't you be toiling away, and not messing about on the forum?
Tsk...tsk.

Sorry to learn of your golden's passing. That breed is incredible. We've had 3, over the years. I'm lusting for another, but size/weight restrictions now where we live on dog size. There are, I've learned, miniature goldens....20-40 lbs. Hmmm.

Somewhere, there are photos of my table on the forum. I'll poke around.
Jon Vermilye has a slick, teak, folding table. Looks clever and attractive. Search the forum. I think he said it's no longer available.

Since it’s the table top only and probably practical to ship. Try Etsy. Looks like you could get what ever you would want.

Teak table

This is the table I purchased and installed on my Lagun mount about 4 years ago. We love it! It might still be available at nauteakmarine.com/teak-tables/

When I constructed my my raised floor dinette I cut down the Escape trailer table top and used the remainder for matching flip up front compartment. I like to keep weight down and found the core material by Escape is lightweight ply. It is only us 2 and table size is fine. Also can drop if bed is ever needed.

Haha, yes and yes...but I gotta take little sneaky breaks here and there, don't I? More importantly: our firm shuts down after 4/15 which means my vacation starts 4/16 and I'll immediately hitting the road in my 5.0...so I've got all these little projects on the brain!

We go back and forth on the next dog, in our hearts we really always want a golden, they are just the best! But yes the size and the energy, we may take a brief break from...actually considering a small/medium older rescue in the meantime to give our Rocky another brother...

Those are nice tables. I purchased the sliding version which is no longer offered from them in 2017. The prices sure have gone up since then! If I was doing it again, I'd buy the hinged version. The sliding version sticks at times, making it difficult to open.

I have the 39" X 23" (13" wide when folded) version. One point - these are heavy tables. If you purchase one, I'd get a couple of extra plastic bearing sets for the Lagun mount. I have worn out a set in the 5 years I've had the table.

While they do not need to be finished, if you do, do not use a polyurethane finish. It does not dry for months on the black "rubber?" sections between the teak.

Also, while it images on the website look like they are no longer doing it, on mine there is a 1/4" or so raised lip going around the outside edge of the table (Maybe to keep things from sliding off on rocking seas?). It puts annoying pressure on your arms when using the table for writing, using a computer, etc. I eventually removed the edge on mine.

Quirk

Factoid of the day.
The raised edge on a table, typically on boats, is called a QUIRK.
At least my failing memory tells me. I dunno, for certain.

I just cut a piece of glued edge board to make my tabletop. Thread is here:

I, and my other sailing friends, describe that raised edge as a fiddle.

My bad

You are correct.
A quirk is a bead or cut- out depression in a trim piece edging as on a the table top edge.
I knew it was some peculiar word.
Fiddle it is!

Thanks for the memory reboot.

While we're at it, what is that tool that's used in rope work? Iron, about 8" long and tapered?

Thanks.
I have one. Very old. Came from a buddy whose dad was a tugboat captain.
