Fold down shelf for the window

This is a mod that I haven't seen before. I made a shelf to fit into the window, with fold-down legs, the same as the ones that are used for extra counter space in Escape trailers. The nice thing is, it folds down (relatively) flat to save space.

I may add side rails, so that the cup of coffee or English muffin don't slide off the sides. This is 12" x 7.5". (It is a surprise anniversary present for my spouse. Don't tell.)

Best regards from Pittsburgh,

David (and Jon)
Pittsburgh, PA

Lacking skills, I just bought a Rubbermaid office organizer.

The silver one looks like it could be handy to have by the kitchen window. Where did it come from?

Can't remember for sure. I'd check Staples, London Drugs, Walmart, and Rubbermaid itself. Come in various shapes and sizes. Need slider windows to hook on.

Very nice! I like the cross piece of wood at the bottom of the bracket legs creating the spacing needed for a level shelf top. No need to screw through the interior liner. Well thought out.

OK, I squinted hard at it again and could just make out that the bottom one was also a Rubbermaid. Should be easy to find.

Need a slider window, wouldn't have any other type.

The aluminum one is probably better because you can squeeze the rim to make a tighter fit over the window lip.

I installed it on the rear window; it is the third picture in the original post.
Best regards,

window shelf.

The shelf looks great! Do you have any pictures of it folded down attached to the window? Wondering how it stays attached when folded?

They are called mesh interlocking drawer organizers, you can get them in plastic or steel. I wasn't able to find the Rubbermaid brand for sale. Amazon no longer sells the Rubbermaid brand in steel mesh but there are other brands. They come in different lengths and depths. Perfect for us non-handy people. : )

I love the wood fold down shelf.

Ron, I know, I know, this question is off the thread’s topic and I don’t want to start a divergence—but gotta ask! (Working on my 5.0 build sheet)

“... slider window, wouldn’t have any other type.”

Please just riff on why for you.
Thanks!
