Just One More Backsplash
Just finished installing a new backsplash in The QShip. 12" peal and stick tiles. Actually small plastic pieces attached to an adhesive backing. Went pretty well, but did learn a few things to make it easier if I ever do it again.

Nice! The backsplash "tile" treatment makes such a great look breaking up the white 'head liner' walls IMO.

This looks really great! - thanks for sharing. The image is a little grainy. Do you happen to know the product number and store so I can look up and try to find? What might you do differently if you did the work again? Cheers, Paul

Actually, the installation is pretty easy. The tiles come with a protective layer on each side, with thin foam on the adhesive side. You can either use full 12" tiles, or separate individual small pieces with the foam cover still on to use individually. I started in the back right corner and worked out from there. The surfaces are not exactly parallel, so you will have to trim to fit. Be aware, the foam is very sticky, and it is very difficult to remove or change a position one it is in place.
I used a utility knife to score the tile (either side) then broke the individual pieces along the score, before removing the foam protective back (except for the curved section, where I attached the 12" tile to the wall and then used the curve to score the back side. It worked well.) I then used a palm sander to smooth the edges.
About the only thing I would do differently is I would remove the screw caps. The tile can conform somewhat to the irregularity, but would be better without it.
The tiles come 12 to a box. I used 6, plus a couple for learning curve.

Hi marant,
Thanks for all these details - we’ll keep in mind for future. That’s a really good look ya got there.
Take care,

Looks great! How did you fasten the magnetic strips holding the knives to that hollow wall? Thanks

I just used two screws in the provided holes. Used the largest ones that would fit, being sure they were short so as not to penetrate the other side. If you want you could probably use VHB tape, but I am not sure it would hold, and if it did not or you wanted to move the rack I think the tape would peel off the wall surface.
We do not take the knives down when we travel and have had none fall.
I just saw today that the rack is on Amazon for $10.

I have that knife rack in my home kitchen and I love it. Scissors and knives always at the ready and not where they can cut someone. And no big block on the counter.
That backsplash is so sparkly! Do you need sunglasses? (JK)

1. Remove the screw caps.
2. Carefully dry fit all panels before you start to glue any down. Once you remove the protective film from the glued side you can no longer experiment. The glue grabs quickly and is very strong.
3. Make a template if you need it. I was able to score the back side of the curved section before removing the glue protect film. The tile score and snap well.
