When I was 14 (in 1970) I bought a Schwinn Continental 10-speed bicycle. I was the first and probably only kid in my farming community to have a ten-speed bike. It had pedals with toe straps. I'd never seen these before, so I didn't know to keep the straps loose. I pulled up to the first intersection and slowly fell over. Farmers drove by in their pickups and looked at me, surely thinking, "that boy ain't right", decades before "King of the Hill."
I still have that bicycle.
“Bless your soul, Mike!”

When I was 21 in 1975, I bought a brand new Motobecane Grand Record 10 speed touring bike, fairly high end, Reynolds double butted 531 frame, Campagnolo derailleurs, sewup/tubular tires.... I think it was $400 which was a lot of money in 1975 for a fresh-outta-college kid. I still have that bike, albeit its beat to heck. my son resurrected it for a few years when he was HS until I got him a nice vintage Trek to take to college.
