Bright yellow Fridge Foam

I was putting our 2004 17B to bed for the winter and was surprised by this fluorescent yellow foam when I opened the fridge vent door! Is it a prank or a problem?

Unfortunately, that is a sign of an ammonia leak. In most cases, it is not repairable. If it is a leak, you will either need to replace the entire refrigerator, or, if you can find one, the cooling unit.

Sadly, 3 months after purchasing a well kept 2013 15B, the refrigerator released all of its ammonia requiring a replacement. Same Dometic model was $2000 taxes in. Direct replacement and easy to do if you are mechanically inclined. New 'fridge works like a charm.

Interesting that the new 'fridge didn't have a door panel. Thankfully when I pulled out the old unit, I recovered the wooden door panel from it. Slid into the new units frame with a little bit of jiggling. Looks like the original.

the guy that runs this website can help you replace just the "cooling unit" section if you are willing to do a little work.
