New Trailer faucet dripping when driving.

We picked up our new Escape 21C Thursday the 23rd in Sumas. So exciting!
We took 2 days to drive home. The 1st day I put the sink cover in and when we arrived I noticed the faucet had leaked about 3 Tbs. of water onto the cover. We had been using city water prior to leaving and the water pump was turned off. The 2nd night we did not have a water hookup and used the water tank. When we left the next morning I turned off the pump and dried the sink out. Again when we arrived the faucet had leaked about the same amount of water. I reached out to Escape on Tuesday but have had no answer back. Any ideas?
My other question is about the vinyl. Can you use command hooks on it and if so can the command hook eventually be removed without damaging the vinyl?

If you did not, try this:

Upon disconnecting from city water or shutting off the pump before travel, open the sink valve and swing to both hot and cold until pressure is relieved for both.

Congrats on your new Escape, Have Fun!

It sounds like the handle is moving slightly into the open position while traveling. Those single handle style faucets with pull out sprayer head hold a lot of water after the shutoff valve. Relieve any pressure and maybe try a rubber band holding the handle down. If the sink cover is not installed doesn’t the water just land in the sink?

Thanks Rubicon, yes the water lands in the sink but we did pay for a fully functioning faucet so I would like it to be so.

I expect the faucet in your home would drip too, if subjected to the rock and roll that is a trailer.

I would relive the pressure on the faucet by the suggested method before traveling. Pressure changes from changing elevation and heated and cold conditions will change the pressure in the lines. If your really unhappy, put in a warranty claim and replace the faucet . There is a lot of junk out there in components as is well documented . I had some water leak when I was dumb enough to leave something on the sink and it hit the lever. If that's all you discovered on your delivery, count yourself lucky.

My mother, who is on a meagre pension, donates $4,000 a year to an agency that digs wells for those without water in Africa.

Oh for Pete's sake. The faucet in our Casita never leaked in 10 years and we were most often off road, boondocking.

What sort of faucet did you have in your Casita? Was it a short one, more or less level? Or was it an arch? The valves are in the taps, which means water is still in the faucet when the taps are turned off. If I wiggle the faucet at home, after shutting off the taps, water will come out.

I think every trailer I have owned leaked a little in the sink after being towed........I got used to it vs trying to stop it!

We have occasionaly had the same mysterious annoyance with our kitchen faucet since new (a 2018 with the straight pullout head). Thank you for the diagnostic explanations and suggested solution/fix. We will now relieve pressure on the water system before traveling.

I replaced my kitchen faucet in the trailer with a $150.00 Moen faucet & unless I release the pressure on both the hot & cold water before driving, I still get a couple of drops of water on the sink cover. I don't believe it is caused by the quality of the faucet...

Hi Beekeeper,
We have the older faucet style in our 21C and we have learned to put a rubber band around the handle and the faucet during travel. Even though we make sure to relieve the water pressure for travel, we noticed that the movement during travel sometimes caused our faucet handle to move (up/on) but with the rubber band holding them together - no more drips of water in the sink after travel. Not sure if this will work with the newer style faucets but if it does, it's simple, cheap and effective. Good luck, -Bea

I have found that it’s always good policy to relieve pressure in any system if it’s not going to be used in the near future. I relieve the pressure on machinery hydraulics, always on gas appliances, and water systems including hoses in the yard. It only takes a moment to reactivate them and I know I have extended the life of the system with the pressure off. Hopefully that’s why we go camping.

Thanks so much all of you for your advice. We are leaving on another trip in a week and will try the pressure release and see how it does.

Well 4,000 thanks to your Mom. That's about what it costs to drill a well,

provide a pump and maintain a well. I volunteer with and support a group

called Lifewater Canada who provide fresh water in Haiti and Liberia. I've done

infrastructure work in Haiti and I can tell you first hand nothing is more

gratifying than driving around Cap-Haitien and seeing all the children that now

have access to fresh clean water from one of our pumps, sparing them from the

ravages of water borne illnesses. Especially when you've seen people having to

get water from a garbage filled ditch.

Yup, depends on the type of faucet. Just because it hasn't happened to you doesn't mean that it doesn't happen. Depends of the type of faucet.

We've had two instances of water leaks, both caused by us breaking our cardinal rule of making sure that the water pump is off when leaving a campsite.

The first was a CruiseAmerica delivery. The single lever faucet arm must have vibrated open a bit and imagine our shock at finding the water tank empty at the end of the day.

The second was on our 21. The spout swung sideways, over the counter, and the water ran down the counter and flooded our recessed stove. again

The faucet was replaced and we haven't had any further problem but you can be sure that our water pump is off when we're underway.

Ron
