Newbie to Generators Question

from a longtime Escape Owner who is considering a generator.

BASIC QUESTION: will adding a generator to our 2014 17b interfere with the onboard EMS (electrical management system Progressive Industries). Will the EMS System “let” me plug into a generator (and let electrical juice into the trailer)?

I have a vague memory from 2014 2015 of Escape owners posting that they had to do some special electrical things when trying to plug in a generator to the trailer. Now we’re considering adding a generator to extend our camping during the shoulder seasons.

Since 2014 we’ve never thought about or needed a generator. Our solar system and usage kept up except it struggled while camping in the deep shade for about a week @ Cultus Lake with adult children/grandchildren.

I’ll may have more newbie questions but haven’t found anything on our forum about this particular issue.

Information appreciated

You'll likely need a neutral bonding plug (<googler search results link) to keep the EMS happy.

Widely available or relatively easy to make one DIY. With that in place the use of the generator should be 'transparent', just as if plugged to shore power (within output limits ).

Note the 'bonding plug' does not need to be 'between' the generator and the trailer, just plugged into any available outlet on the generator and yes applies to 'inverter generators' also.

Yep, there's threads here on the forum discussing them, too.

Hope that helps, Have Fun!

Thanks for your response CenTex

I’ll add that plug to our shopping list

Now we’ll look at the various models
