I’ve seen elsewhere on this forum that Escape has switched to a Dometic D21 model, with an Enzo model option. I think.

If you google it Escape forum comes up with complaints. No other forum does. Other trailer brands have forums, too. Why isn't it showing up?

Probably because they don’t use that crappy cooktop.

Tony: Sorry to hear of your incident. This is exactly the reason I have been pushing in these threads for owners to report issues and get the NHTSA involved. Sad to hear about another injury that could have been avoided. Dometic recalled a stove and it would be just as easy for Suburban to do so with the SDS2 cooktop. Unfortunately I think it is going to take a lawsuit to wake them up. Escape is culpable too as they know there is a problem but just quietly switched cooktops. How about a warning or some type of bulletin sent to owners to have the cooktops checked? These are ticking time bombs with parts loosening with each mile and owners that are oblivious to the danger.

Hi: rubicon327... I think we're lucky. We have an Atwood Wedgewood 3 burner cooktop. Don't even know if it's still made? Alf

Just cooktop or also cooktop/oven combo?

Can anyone clarify if the problems noted with the SDS2 cooktop also apply to the cooktop/oven combo that ETI has been installing?

No reported issues as far as I know. The oven comes with a built in cooktop, of a different design. It's not 2 pieces.

It got a response, which was bad enough to discourage anyone from buying from ETI. ETI's own forum is clearly useless for real issues.

I suggest that people with this issue (that is, actually owning a trailer with this stove) contact Karl... and the appropriate government agency in their country.

It's unlikely that no other trailer manufacturer uses this cooktop - the model likely wouldn't survive in production on only aftermarket sales.

As I speculated before, ETI may have purchased these in a large lot, and the problem may be common only in that lot.

Other RV manufacturers may have quietly replaced these stoves, preventing a significant number of incidents and avoiding this sort of discussion online, or they may have resolved the problem with the stoves themselves (tightening nuts)... but again that is only speculation about a possible explanation.

I hope it doesn’t survive because it is hurting people. Not sure who might use it but I do know that Scamp, Casita, Oliver and Jayco don’t.

Forest River has or did use them. I have seen no reports of explosions.

Quote from Karl at Escape received today.....
" We have moved to installing the Dometic 2 burner for all new trailers, and now also offer a marine grade 3 burner cooktop from ENO as an option.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Karl"

Yes, there's a thread on it here:

https://www.escapeforum.org/forums/f...2-a-21352.html

And here's a link to the likely model from ENO that was mentioned.

https://www.westmarine.com/buy/eno-s...08?recordNum=1

Personally I'd much prefer the Dickinson Marine 2 burner to the ENO.

Did they mention doing anything about the stoves in existing trailers? I guess I'll ask.

The Atwood Wedgewood DV-20 (2 burner) and DV-30 (3 burner) cooktops have been discontinued but the 2 burner appears to still be sold under the brand name Flame King. At least it looks the same in all respects and has same specifications as far as I can tell.

Interesting to note, the discussion that started in Facebook after this latest incident was closed because, quote “Closing comments as this topic can spiral out of hand and has been discussed several times before”
If you ever been in any forum or any Facebook group you will find very quickly that almost anything has been discussed before. I know Escape have very obvious interest silencing this issue, I just can’t understand why some Escape owners are trying to sweep this under the rug.

On a side note, my wife say see will not use the cooktop anymore, I’m starting to look for replacement.
