Retractable Screen Door Problem
We are ready to leave for an extended trip and I can't get the retractable screen door to close. It is caught on the lower right side in the open position. Tried WD-40, too. We didn't get a manual regarding the door, will contact ETI Monday. What can I do? I am not comfortable taking my screwdriver to it until I'm certain what's what.

Thanks Donna. I am at the point where I need to call them and the toll free number on the brochure is a sweepstakes center where I can purchase medical devices, cruises, car insurance and more. I went to their web page and no phone number is available. I'll ask ETI for help while I wait for a response from SEIKI Screen Systems. This happened once before and Phil had no problems releasing the "brake".
In the meantime, if anyone else had this problem, please pass on your details.

I want to share this post in case others have the same problem.
Reace said this has happened and 'customers usually jiggle and wiggle the bottom area that is stuck. Just don’t pull hard on it as it will break the cord. I don’t know what gets jammed, but a bit of in and out and wiggling seems to allow it to let go. My guess is one of the black pieces is snagged on something.'
We wiggled and jiggled a few hundered times and tried not to disturb our neighbors. As a last resort, Reace suggested 'The next step is to remove the screen door which will allow you to flip it around and try to jiggle it loose.' He went on to say, ' The installer said to make sure you do not take apart the screen from the bottom when you have it out. Apparently the springs inside will let go…making a mess'
Wouldn't you know, just before we were going to remove the door, it closed as if nothing was ever amiss. Go figure. So glad it is fixed.

Glad to hear it worked out for you. I had messed with mine a few times to fix it, but really had no input to help.
I did that with no problem when I pulled it to do the cork flooring. Maybe the fact I was able to recoil it all the way was the difference.
I love the way these doors work, I just did not like how much fiddling they took to keep working smoothly.

When I installed the handle on my screen door, I accidently drilled through a string that ties all of the little black plastic pieces together on the bottom and up the inside edge of the door. What a mess. Black plastic pieces all over the place. I ended up disassembling the door and tying everything back together with a new piece of string. Worked just like new afterwards. I even had a few spare black plastic pieces left over.

Yeah, out of the box there is no easy way to make the door narrower if you don't need the full width, because as you discovered you need to remove the string first.
Shortening it is as easy as just cutting down the height, but from the top only.

We love these doors, too and we had a wild mini-celebration when it came back to life! Not a lot of mosquitos right now, but plenty of wasps! We love that we can keep the door open again!

Leftover pieces are usually not a good sign... when reassembling anything. I always consider no leftover pieces to be a good indicator of success when building anything from a kit.
I hope they were just extra because the doorway is narrower than the maximum.

Exactly. There is no way, or real need to, remove excess width without full disassembly like Dave did.

We need to replace the torn screen fabric on our 2010 17B. Where do we need to go to find the fabric and, hopefully, instructions on installation?

Hi: marant... My retractable Vista Plus Screen is by Seiki Screen Systems. SEIKI SCREEN SYSTEMS It's a product for home but made to measure for RV's. I hope this helps. Alf

Thanks. My screen does not seem to have any identification on it, but I will look again. The Seiki site indicates a replacement cartridge may be available, but no indication of price.
Do you know, is the screen standard on Escape trailers, or did you install it after purchase?

Hi: marant... It was standard for the retractable screen. Our first 5.0 had a bi-fold screen as standard. Alf

The part # is VPRMCWH-1S. Cost is $80 including $15 delivery. You will have to use a fine tooth hacksaw as it is a generic length of 80". Took a week to arrive.
