Window Problem

We have a 2017 model 21 and the sliding window for the kitchen got broken by something (probably me) and it has spider cracks thru out the window. We are planning a trip and were wondering if it was safe to travel with the window like this. It is still intact and in place but not sure how highway speed winds might affect it. I was thinking of some clear contact paper on it till I can get it replaced. Any thoughts that might help. We don't want to cancel our trip.

Some packing tape on both sides of the window will hold things in place until replaced. Only temporary though.

Clear tape is exactly what I would do. Heck, if all I had was bright red duct tape I'd use THAT. No way a broken window would cause me to cancel a trip.

Take care when ordering a new window and ensure you order the exact same window that was installed. I recall a previous post or two from a few years ago where an Escape owner called Escape and asked what model window was installed on their trailer, only to be given the wrong part number. The owner ended up with a window that was not returnable and would not fit, and Escape (Karl-era) would not take any responsibility on the issue.

If it were me, I'd either take it to a respected local RV repair place and have them do it, or I would check with the new management team at Escape and see if they would order the window for me. Worth the extra shipping costs in my opinion if they agree to procure it and then ship to you.

So bottom line is if you plan a DIY repair, take precautions to ensure you have the right part and it is returnable if it does not fit.

Plus 2 on the temp tape solution!

I had the escape window have the same pattern with it's demise. Don't move it until you get the tape on the window. Otherwise you may have glass all over the place. At least that's what I had happen

Good luck!

A possible alternative to strips of tape is to apply clear sheet film to the entire glass area. Only ~$11 for trim-to-fit sheet stock on Amazon, still a temporary solution though.

One way to perhaps ensure the correct replacement is to temporarily remove the window (after the glass is 'taped'), allowing one to see / photograph the window specification tag found on the frame perimeter.

Good luck!
