Yeah, I guess it's because of the type of soil. I grew up in the Rockies, where just about every home I ever saw had a basement.

Here's a shot of one here in Texas, and they've added gravel and are ready to cover the piles. Then, they will run a rebar grid across the whole thing and fill the entire form with concrete. There are minor variations from builder to builder, but the concept is pretty much the same.

How cool is this? A friend pointed out that they just opened a Brookshire Brothers grocery in Canyon Lake, which isn't far from our new property. Looks really nice. It won't pull me away permanently from HEB for the big trips, but I like that it's 100% employee owned.

new store

Hi Robert,
That new store looks like a real good deal for you. Especially if you have to make an emergency beer run.

Robert's new property isn't far from Fredericksburg, a charming town whose buildings are built from locally-quarried limestone.

That's true Mike, Fredericksburg isn't too far west. We don't visit there as much as we used to, mainly because on weekends the town is basically overrun with tourists. Thousands of them - to the point where you can't even get down main street. Used to be a sleepy Hill Country town.

But they still have excellent German food.

We closed on the land two days ago. Too late now, we own it...[emoji2]

We also put our house up for sale. The first day on MLS was yesterday. There were 6 showings. We received an offer for 3K over asking price. Accepted!

Love it when a plan comes together. Only thing now is to find a temporary place to live while our new one is being built....

Yeah, well there is that option, Al.

This time of year in South Texas, the trailer AC would be running non stop. Besides, an apartment with a garage gives us a place to put our stuff. [emoji1]

You got that right Marry. We thought we were living "lightweight" until we started packing up. Too much stuff. Much of it is going in file 13 or to a garage sale.

Congrats on the sale.

We are still plugging away hard to finish things in our house so we can get listed. We are finding hordes and hordes of stuff we really do not need.

Another hoarder?
Wishing you two well with everything!! Gonna be hard to beat Robert's record sale, but I bet you would settle for any offer over asking price. Only that already would make me happy
