One additional point on our install though - the big black "pipe" at the back of the cabinet makes it so the Elfa option just barely fits. It goes through each cabinet up the stack at a slightly different place. So anyone considering that option should measure very carefully first.

I built a box of 5/8" plywood with runners cut into the sides to act as drawer slides. The stainless steel drawers/baskets from the container store go almost full depth and there is about 6" of room to hang a few items.

Love, love the idea!!! I was hoping for just a little more hanging room, as we have kiddos, but man this is nice. Any idea as to the cost?
In retrospect, is there any way to save any more space, or would you do anything differently? how are your cut slides doing in the plywood? what is the size of your mesh baskets? it seems that container store has a variety of sizes. also, any idea of the max hangers you can hang in here?
So grateful for your contribution, we will probably do this!!!

The Elfa baskets I used ( 12 7/8 w 20 3/4 L 7 1/4 H ) fit the space very well and I don't believe a change in size increase any space. I would change the height though, they are kinda deep, some digging required. In a do over I would use 5 or 6 baskets. I can hang 5 or so shirts or 2 or 3 jackets. The 6" is small. You could find baskets that are narrower to give you more hanging room.
The cuts/slides are holding up great, no problem there. You mentioned kids. Care must be taken when the basket is pulled out not to " push down" Lot's of leverage there and splitting the plywood is easy. Although they do hold themselves well when pulled out.
In looking at the many sizes at the container store the front to back size of 20 7/8 is pretty close to perfect.
Chris and Patrica on this forum also did something similar with Elfa Baskets.

We fold all of our camping clothes, so we wanted to maximize the storage of the wardrobe and decided to order and install custom wood drawers.

If you fold then you can use those space saver compression bags that eliminate air, keeps the items fresh, waterproof, and saves 50% of the space.

Greg, thanks for your comments. I ordered the drawers pre-assembled from an online cabinet suppler. We selected birch for both cost and weight. I estimate they added about 65 lbs.

Red Dog and/or H46Driver--do either of you know or have access to measure how far that pipe/conduit intrudes on the back of the space...i.e, how far out from the back wall and the side wall does that thing stick out? Looks like it might be 2x2, but I'm hoping less. It'll determine what depth drawers I can put in my wardrobe.
Thanks!

Well, just to throw it out there again, we've been happy with our hanging closet organizer. It may not have the capacity and nice custom look of the other options shown in this thread, but it's relatively inexpensive (~$15), weighs next to nothing, takes about 10 seconds to install (and uninstall if you want to recoup the whole space), leaves plenty of room for hanging clothes and storage of other large items, and works just fine for the two of us. It's not suitable storage for heavy pantry items, but we have plenty of other storage space for those things.

Yes, we haven't changed out the Wal-Mart 3 drawer plastic dresser. Gives us options for larger items such as our new portable solar suitcase. A 21 has so much storage anyway.

On mine, the pipe/conduit takes up 2.5” x 2.5”. I also measured from the back of the rail to to back wall, and it is also about 2.5”.
I think I asked ETI to move the pipe/conduit to the back corner, so it would not impede with the shelf project.

Your solution is a good one too. When we had our camper we also used that solution . The cabinet was wider and bigger like yours in your 21 .the 19 not so much so we just made shelves . Pat

Question, Are building our 21 5.0 now.
Did you put these drawers in the closet and in the kitchen? I was wondering if I should tell them not to put shelves in the kitchen cabinets and we can utilize these amazing baskets! I really love what you’ve done. I really appreciate people sharing their images. Very helpful. Thanks for your input

Adeline,
Which baskets are you referring to? The drawers on the original post are Rev-A-Shelf. I am not sure where the baskets are from.

Adeline, not sure which Escape model you are asking about, there is a 21' Escape and a 5.0TA Escape, which model are you interested?

Quick lesson when it comes to Escape models.
5.0 is the single axle 5th wheel
5.0TA is the double axle 5th wheel
length is reserved to the bumper pull models and not the 5th wheels:
13
15
17
19
21
Whew.
