While I appreciate the quote from Hunter Thompson, he's a cautionary tale at best. Body ruined by drug and alcohol abuse, health failing, he committed suicide. For all his pontificating, he never figured out that the secret to a happy and fulfilling life is to live it for the betterment of your fellow man. There are several forum members here who follow that pattern, and they inspire me. Methinks Teddy Roosevelt is a better pattern. Now he LIVED.

Suicide frequently terminates genius and/or talent...Virginia Woolf, Ernest Hemingway, Phil Ochs, Robin Williams...the list could go on.

Sad but true. John Belushi made me laugh just looking at him.

I used to bemoan my lack of creative/artistic talent, but.....

Despite the life he made, there is certain validity to that quote, making it somewhat fitting. Your revised quote fits the bill too.

Interesting follow-up to the OP's original post: the first example of used trailers for sale (the beautiful 2013 Escape 19) appears to have sold very quickly. Proving that the market, or at least one buyer at a time, dictates value.

I put a tough layer of polyurethane on it, to protect it. We do sweep it out as needed.

Seems we are in total agreement. The best camping spots in Colorado are always 10-15 miles down an awful road and my avatar is every bit as dainty as she looks.

I've got a bit to learn about some of the systems; but my intent is to use it hard and keep it well maintained.

Couldn't agree more! Theodore Roosevelt was the original conservationist and started our National Parks of course. A great read is "River of Doubt"- an almost unbelievable story about his journey in the Amazon.

coming late to this conversation, but I just want to point out: your Escape is worth exactly as much as it always was... It's the worth of your dollars that has changed. Forget the dollars, and enjoy the e(E)scape.

I just ordered a new 17B figuring it would cost about the same a used one, if I could find one for sale. Having to wait till Oct for delivery we'll miss this summer season but we feel it's worth it.

Congrats Bailie! More importantly, you can now customize it to fit YOU.

Yes, it was covered in the TV series of the Roosvelts. Don't know how he survived, an unusual guy, to say the least.

As far as having an October delivery date, as has been mentioned before, it's not unusual for dates to move up. So start on that build list sooner than later and maybe you'll get to enjoy some nice weather with it before October.

new escapes

Do build dates change? We missed a 5 TA in florida We just saw Alf "s 5 TA yesterday and then sent e-mail to other seller and it was sold . It was the same price as a delivered new one but we could get it now , Do you think buying it now with full payment is a good idea? Loosing interest or stock/bond appreciation?
Getting it in October is loosing the summer . I guess one could order a new one now for $500.00 and then wait for Canadian dollars to go down further if it does and then pay in full.

Actually i'm not happy when the Canadian dollar goes down because we have some Canadian stock in our Retirement funds and it has lost some value but I still think Canada should do well when Saudia Arabia stops bringing down oil prices .Jim

Yes, sometimes there are cancellations and if you let ETI know of your desire, you may get lucky. I got my Escape 19' in about 8 weeks, I had sent full payment and told them ASAP and there was a cancellation. You may get lucky.

Pay now or wait until the Canadian $ goes down further? Or, keep your money in a bond fund to get the interest? The exchange rate hasn't been this good in many many years and I am sure you will be hard pressed to get any where near the interest rate on your bond/retirement funds as the rate ($1 US = $1.24 Canadian as five minutes ago when I checked). Will it go to $1.25 or $1.26? Maybe, maybe not. No way to know the future but I can tell you, just like in the stock market - "pigs get slaughtered"! My wife and I paid half of the 5.0TA when the rate was $1.17 and then paid off the rest the other day at $1.25. In essence, dollar averaging was the theory. Pull the trigger and do it.
