Buc-ee’s

We’ve been cruising around the Waco, TX area checking out possible locations to retire. Linda had never been to a Buc-ee’s before so I gave her the full Buc-ee experience from filling up at one of the 100+ pumps to chowing down on a brisket sandwich with homemade potato chips followed by banana pudding for dessert. Washed it all down with fresh brewed coffee. Do I know how to treat a lady or what?

What did she have to say about the experience? I want to hear her side.

When you got back to hit the road, did you bump up the old standard
“Gee baby ain’t I good to you?” And how did that go?

We have one coming here

There's one going up in DeForest, Wisconsin, of all places. It will be just off the Interstate, a heavily traveled one and a few miles northeast of Madison. I'm sure Buc-ees did their research for location selection.

And, to boot, the mascot of the University of Wisconsin-Madison sports teams is a badger, named.....Bucky!
Buc-ees will likely find a profitable home in Bucky la-la land.

Well, she thought the brisket sandwich and homemade potato chips were pretty darn good. The banana pudding not as good as hers . The coffee was okay. As for the throngs of people there, ya she was done with them pretty quick

Iowa Dave, Linda is a tough cookie. She doesn’t take much BS especially from me!

Gee Baby, Ain't I Good To You

I listened to this rendition earlier this evening, by chance.

Some of my family has visited Buc-ees and thought it was pretty good. I’m a Dairy Queen $7 meal deal person. I know what you mean by a no nonsense spouse. She don’t take no crap.

My experience with that glorified convenience store:
Been there, done that (once). Didn’t buy the tee shirt do I will never where it out. The same time standard, never, is when I plan my next visit.

There's a mega Buc-ee's in my small town on the Austin - Houston highway, apparently it does booming business.

I pass it often. The key word is "pass".

Habberdabber, big Lyle fan here. She's no lady, she's my wife.

Yup

I was listening to a compilation Lyle CD I'd concocted a while back the other night with "Gee baby ain’t I good to you" on it. A meaningless coincidence, I guess.

And I would be remiss with not mentioning this one, in a similar vein

"You can have my girl but don't touch my hat"

That's the way they are in Texas, I reckon.

A couple of cool tid bits about Lyle. He was a pretty good motocross rider back in the day and he was/is good friends with Fabio Lanzoni who was also a good motocrosser. I believe they road the Baja 500 course together at one time.

Well, not really, but it does make a good lyric and I reckon we do all love Lyle.

I've dug Lyle since his album Pontiac came out 30+ years ago.... ok, (looked it up) 1987, so 37 years ago? phew.

Just saw him a couple months ago at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga, CA, with his full Large Band, awesome show, they played 3 hours with no intermission. We had 3rd row center seats.

Reminiscing

Eons ago we saw Lyle and his Large Band play a show in Madison, WI. I swear to Great Caesar's ghost, just down the row of seating was a spitting image of Lyle Lovett, dressed smartly in tie and suit, like he does. I had to ask this fellow, what gives. He said he was a Lyle impersonator doing his gig in the nearby Wisconsin Dells, aka the indoor & outdoor "water slide capital of the world." The Dells are a cheesy, overbuilt, long time existing tourist trap/attraction.

A stellar doppelganger, if I ever saw one. Now Lyle has a unique and peculiar physical appearance. This doppelganger checked all the boxes. I was impressed.

We've seen his shows in various Wisconsin cities a hand full of times. Lyle's shows, not the doppelgangers, that is.

Maybe he'll be the opening act for the new Buc-ee's here in Wisconin.

Pontiac is my favorite Lyle album.

Never seen him but got goosebumps from hearing Lyle and Bonnie Raitt duet Angel from Montgomery on tv on Austin City Limits a loooong time ago.

I'm off to search for tickets. If I go anywhere distant I'll be camping in my 17 before and after. Maybe that counts as getting us back on topic so we don't get scolded.

Its a Texas based "Gas station " and convenient store...on steroids.
Usually 110 gas pumps and the average store is larger than many Walmarts...Its usually a zoo in there.

they are in a number of southern states, too, not just Texas. Missouri, Alabama, Kentucky, Illinois, there's a couple in Georgia, one in South Carolina, and a few in Florida.

They put the first one in Fl in the town I live in. The county wouldn't let them have more than 100 gas pumps....2nd one opened a few months later in Daytona.. I knew they were in several states, just pointing out they are a Texas based company.. They are fun to peruse for an hour or so... Amazing the stuff they stock. one visit is enough for me....
