Banner Elk, NC Grandfather Campground next to a babbling brook. Hiking off the Blue Ridge Parkway tomorrow, and will likely get wet. Planning another campfire tonight.

Okay I used landscape, but guess I had the phone the other way. When I get wifi, I’ll check out the suggested app.

I fixed it for you. Are you left handed? IF using a smart phone the button to take the picture should be on the right.

I’m sure I just grabbed, turned it landscape and snapped. Okay, landscape, button on the right. I really will look at Glen’s suggested app when I have WiFi sometime.
Thanks Donna.

Wet, foggy, rainy day hiking and driving between mp 290 and 305 on the Blue Ridge Parkway today.
Tomorrow it’s off to visit Old Salem. I love colonial living history, and have wanted to see Old Salem for 50 years, but I’ve never made it work. So I made sure it went on the stops for this trip.

Scratch Old Salem off the bucket list
I only wish I had a Salem, Old or otherwise, to smoke and enjoy.
This past Fall I finally got to Huntsville, AL and the Rocket Museum there. Several previous attempts to do so were not successful. It's nice to "bag" a desire.
bon voyage,

The museum in Huntsville is nice. I grew up close to NASA in Houston. We made the Huntsville stop in 2018.

I may some day do the bolt mod. I did it on my manual milling machine.
Went to Old Salem today. Doing “nothing” tomorrow. It’s vacation after all.

Kerr Reservoir Henderson NC campsite tonight. Off to the Outer Banks tomorrow.
Have a picture of the lake view because we are camped in it, but not enough cell signal to upload it.
Small 2 lane road with traffic today and Barb hit something in the road. There was no where to go; I’ll crawl under truck and trailer shortly and take a look.

Oregon Inlet is part of the national seashore and just across the dunes. A short walk takes you to a beach that has very few people on it even when I’ve come in the summer. The water is cold now, and only gets somewhat warm in late summer. There are usually strong rip currents, so you have to be careful in the water, but the beach is great.

A few pictures from today while laying on the beach. Don’t eat out much, but tonight we are going out for seafood.

Next month we're going to be traveling from northern Kentucky southeast, maybe down to Huntsville, then towards the coast and up to Virginia.
Have you been reserving campsites ahead of time, or trusting to pot luck? We guess this time of year it's OK to take chances, but wondering about mid-April on. . .

while I managed to travel in the past without reservations, March & April in the south was a problem even then. Spring Break fills the campgrounds both months.
On my current trip back to the East from Quartzsite I have made reservations for the entire trip. I hate to do it, but when making reservations in December for a February - April trip many State Park & COE campgrounds were already near full. I hope the camping craze goes away soon and I can get back to free form travel.
The other problem is first come sites are getting to be rare. My favorite COE parks now require on line reservations, as well as most state parks.

Rainy drive to Williamsburg today.
Unfortunately, I have gone to mostly reserving things. It’s just too crowded anymore. Many places now require reservations. They no longer take walkins. Oregon Inlet in Cape Hatteras National Seashore, which we just left, is one such place.
