Travel with table up or down
We just picked up our trailer and have the large table with the springfield base. Per ETI it is ok to travel with the table up, what do those of you with this table do?

I travel with it up, I did install a lock for the slider although I really don't know if it moves without it. Someone did a writeup on it once upon a time.

We leave it up and bungee-cord it against sideways motion - from the table's side edge, around the front post, and back to same side edge; one bungee cord wrapped to the left, one wrapped to the right. Haven't had any problems yet.

If you travel with the table down would that not keep it from sliding side to side.

yes, it wouldn't move. For us, it's just easier to just throw the catch.

I was told by ETI to tow with table (with SPRINGFIELD pedestal) Down. For sure.
Makes sense to me.
No hardship.
Plus I think better safe than sorry
I recall reading of one person with same setup as us who towed with table up. And it ripped off the floor during a somewhat bumpy tow. They posted a thread here on this forum.

Sigh, hate to a contrarian but my table has never been down and I've been everywhere man, I've been everywhere. Don't lock the side to side either.

After finding our 17B table on the dinette cushions after travelling on the I-15 detour near Kingman, AZ we always travel with it down, even after installing the Springfield. Makes sense when you think of the top heavy table wagging in your rolling earthquake.

I had a similar pedestal in my boat. Unlike the trailer situation mine was in full view. When I fell off a wave or slammed into a head sea I could see the effect on the table, which was nothing.
Mind you, if I had a factory sloppy pedestal and didn't use nut sertz to install my custom table support I probably wouldn't be quite so cavalier.

used to travel with it up but after a "sudden change in direction" the result inside the trailer was not good

I think the size of the table as well as location should be considered. with the full sized, double pedestal up front, I would definitely take down or secure in place, mine in the first 19 broke loose, on Interstates. The smaller "U" dinette in the rear of the 21 was more secure and held in place with a bungee.

Why would I push it down when it rides just fine in the up position?

That is great Ron that you have not had any damage yet to your table traveling with it up.
Did you see the post that 7th Heaven made on this thread that shows the damage that his table endured when he was traveling with his table up?

I have never put the table down when moving, either with the stock setup in the 19, or with my Springfield in the 5.0TA. I know it only takes a minute or so, mostly shifting cushions about, but just could not be bothered. Never had an issue.

The OP is asking about the Springfield, same as I have. 7th Heaven has, or had, the original wobbly legs or something similar, 2 different animals.

Yes, different in several ways. First, the stock bases are smaller - much smaller. This places more stress on them vs the Springfield base that is spread out. Second, the stock bases are made of cheap chinese metal - almost like a pot metal. I'm not sure what they're made of but it's very brittle. The Springfield on the other hand is made of a thick aluminum, and is much more heavy duty.
If it gives you some peace of mind to lower it for travel, then go for it. I've had no issues leaving it up. I do have the U-shaped dinette however, and a smaller table top.

Yes indeed. The Springfield is a stout, marine base designed to take a beating. It has a static load capacity of 120 lbs, retails for $370 and has a five year warranty. Compare that to the stock table leg/base from Escape that probably retails for about $20. Ok, sometimes they use two so $40.
