Update On Jim Norman

Jim went through an 8 hour operation on Friday - a Whipple procedure. He is currently in the surgical ICU recovering. Assuming there are no complications he will remain in the hospital for 10 days. The surgeons felt that the operation was a "success". Let's hope so.

An amusing sideline at least from Jim and Noelia's perspective had to do with the fact that the nurses put a large "V" next to his name hanging (I think) off the end of his bed. He asked what the V stood for. One of the nurses said "Virgin". 'It's because our records indicate that you have never been in a hospital before.' He thought that was pretty funny.

Good to hear the doctors thought it went well. I like the V story. [emoji4]

Thank you for the update - what a relief to hear that it went well. I'm sure this will be a tough recovery, but with Jim's sense of humor I look forward to all the stories he will no doubt have to tell when he gets through this.

He will be looking at the menu in a few days and be asking for scrapple for breakfast. Spam for lunch and Ribs or Lobster for dinner with a side of poutine. Might be disappointed in hospital food though. Hoping for a speedy recovery.

I had a hunch he'd be a little too occupied to post an update for a few days. Thanks for keeping us apprised on his progress.

Quite an achievement for Jim, going this long without ever being hospitalized. My mother used to say 'a hospital is no place to get well'. [emoji846]

Thanks for the update, glad he is doing well, and is no longer a virgin.
I am sure all good hospitals would serve Spam (Sizzling Pork And Meat).
Isn't pork a meat?

I’m sure that by now, somebody somewhere has developed a best food hospital ranking. If they haven’t, it could be a great new reality series for Guy Fierri “Diners, Dives, Drive In’s and the food they serve at hospitals you’ll end up in if you eat at my favorite joints.” Kind of a long title but you get the idea. In Iowa, sometimes noted as the number one pork producing state, a pork slogan has been “Pork, the other white meat.”.
Locally, pork is relatively inexpensive, easily obtained, and many cuts are very lean. The cured meat, not quite so healthy though.

I hope someone is able to smuggle in some salt and pepper to make the hospital food palatable.
