Fridge Fan

I've seen numerous references to fridge fans here so wanted to pass along my fridge experience.

It's always hot here in deep south TX this time of year but this year has been unusally hot. I went on a fishing trip a few weeks ago and my fridge temp moved from about 34 in the morning to almost 50 in the afternoon.

I ordered a fan setup from Amazon. The Beech Lane 12v, adj temp, dual fans that attach with included hardware to the inside of the side vent of the fridge.

I was really pleased with the result. On a 7 day trip I just returned from( triple digit temps). The temp didn't get above 37 that I noticed.

I assumed it would improve but that much surprised me. About $75.

Settings Question?

Thanks for sharing.

I have a similar fan, mounted at the top of the fridge vent (mine to the roof).

Did you leave the fan on continuously or have it triggered by temperature, or just manually on for an hour here and there?

The remote control has 2 slider switches. One to leave the fan on constant and adj fan speed. The other is temp activated. I set it on 75 which pretty much means it stays on here. I can't hear it running so the first day I went outside a few times to make sure it was working.

About $75.
Thought I'd ask first, but is this the fan?

Thanks,

Perry

Yep! The very same. Easy install. The 12v terminal block is easy to access. I used double sided tape to attach the remote in the inclosure. It can be installed inside if you like.

The ones that clip on to the cooling fins work great. I run the wires down the condensation tube to the wiring behind the fridge. Home Depot has this one for $35.

For us that are electrically challenged it would be really nice if a picture was posted on the terminal block and how the fan was connected to it.

I don't have a camera but the block is almost always centered on the floor of the enclosure and labeled. I don't trust wire colors so I always check for a proper connection with my test lite or voltmeter

I have a battery powered one inside the fridge. This is better. Good thought about the drain tube. I like it!

My fridge saga so far post 84-117.

https://www.escapeforum.org/forums/f...e-21759-5.html

We were out this weekend temps above 100, but fridge was in the shade and stayed very cold. Too cold sometimes. I had to turn it down. We had a FHU site so it was running on AC. In the sun, it still can’t keep up, so a fridge shade awning is the next project.

Thanks for the tip about fan. How do you connect it to the 12v wiring?

Thanks. Do you have to remove the fridge to get to the wiring?

I usually create more confusion when I attempt to explain something but ill give it a shot.

Remove the panel on the fridge side vent and the 12v terminal block should be on the floor of the enclosure at the center. It's a white plastic block with terminals holes on the side for the wires and at the top of the block for set screws that secure the incoming wires.

Look down the top of the block and you will see the set screws. On mine there are red and black wires at the two terminals on the left. Measure across these and you will get your battery voltage.

Test your fan by touching the set screws just mentioned with the red and black wires attached to the fan. It should work. Run the wire down the drain tube and attach to the terminal.

Loosen the set screws and insert the fan red and black wires into the same terminals as the present red and black wires. Tighten the screws back and you are in business.

Edit: If the wire colors don't match you will have to determine what they are. Since there are only two wires, not difficult!

I was just wondering if you removed the existing fan behind the frig as ours has started to get very noisy. I am looking to install new fans, but do not want to remove frig to get to old fan for removal. Did you remove your original fan?

Nope. Just added the new one. I attached the temp sensor up close to the evaporator. Don't know that it will make any difference, at 75 it will run constantly here.

Good description of install.

Internal fridge and external fridge have different jobs. I’ve never messed with my external fan, but ours too has grown louder with use.

You do not have to remove the fridge to install the internal fan.

I’m sure for access you would have to disconnect the electric, propane, and remove the rear screws to slide the fridge forward to replace the external fan.

I got sidetracked on my last post with ther 'external' business. The temp sensor applies to an additional external fan attached to the inside of the side vent and has nothing to do with the internal fan.

Remember, I said I would probably confuse more than assist.

I think I will just add and internal fan for now and see how that goes. If the noise of external fan gets any worse i will pull refrigerator and replace it.
