Sink replacement

I want to replace the original sink with the Elkay Quartz bar sink. Has anyone done that, and is it difficult to do?

Is there a specific Elkay sink you are talking about or just sinks in general?

We installed a Houzer sink that looks just like the Elkay. The sink is easy to install. You will have to change your plumbing and that takes longer, but was easy to do. We also installed a Kohler sink drain with a true strainer. It was expensive ($75) but worth it.

Enjoy,

Perry

I am unfamiliar with Houzer, where did you get it? Will the new sink take up a lot more room underneith?

We got ours from a local plumbing supply, but many others here have Houzer (sp?) and may chime in.

It’s deeper, so it takes up more room, but for us was well worth the money.

Enjoy,

Perry

I searched until I found a sink just big enough for a plate to sit in. I am not sure of the brand or model right now as I did this in early 2017. I found one in SS we both liked. We prefer it to be a reasonable size for a couple of reasons. One is not wasting a lot of hot water filling a large sink. The other is to minimize the over filling of our grey water tank which is the biggest issue with tank sizes.

Regardless, installing a sink that fits well (and this is another size concern) is quite easy. I have installed many hundreds of sinks before though.

All this said, I much prefer to do the dishes in a plastic bin outside where I can watch nature do its thing, the main reason we go camping in the first place.

We chose the Blanco Stellar Bar Sink for our E19. It seemed to be a nice compromise size for the space. It has worked well.

The stock sink does seem rather skimpy in the mouth, but the ones you folks referenced are really not that much larger (although they're deeper). Does an extra inch and a half of width really make that much difference in actual use? Or is it the greater depth that you find most helpful?

Seeing how there's no way to fit a residential-size sink in there, the biggest issue I have with my sink is, the drain plug doesn't hold water like it should.

We prefer the extra width for clean up. Ours is intentionally not much deeper to minimize reach, water usage, and maximize space underneath. We wanted more washing ease width, but not too much wider to still keep a bit of counter. It’s been good for us and holds a large bowl for washing when we want the water in the black tank.

I love my deep sink and I don't use any more water than someone would with a shallow sink. Three inches of water is three inches of water and no one in their right mind would fill up a deep sink with water. I have no idea where people think others would. Seriously.

What a deep sink does for me is keep the water IN THE SINK. I'm a slob I guess because with a shallow sink I end up with water all over the counter, on the kitchen curtain/blind, on the floor, and ON ME. No MORE! I can wash my hair and keep both elbows INSIDE the sink which really keeps things dry. I wasn't all that concerned about losing space under the sink, my 5.0TA has plenty of storage and there's still plenty of short space under the sink. I just can't stand up a half dozen tall dish soap containers. Oh well.

Many times people fill deeper just because they can with a deeper sink. It’s easy to not be careful. We prefer shallower. Obviously some prefer deeper. At the same water depth, a larger sink holds more water. I don’t want to bend over / reach deeper, and we do want the storage. We don’t find we splash more water. Maybe if we filled it deeper we would. We did want wider to hold a large bowl for dishes when we want to be able to put it in the black tank. Different folks have different needs.

Well okay, but my deeper sink isn't any deeper than what's in my sticks 'n bricks kitchen and I don't bend over. But then again, I'm 5'6" not 6'5". I typically use my coffee cup as my soap water container in my trailer when I do dishes. That contains how much water is used. I suppose I could always use a dishpan or a bowl. All those work just fine. What was most important to me is the sink is bigger and better than the tiny little bar sink I had in my Scamp and THAT was what ETI was going to install. Is that still factory standard? Gad, I hope not....

That's what I call a coffee cup!

We have the Houzer sink in ours, but like Donna D., use a bowl to hold soap water and use the sink for spray rinse, thanks to the bottom grid. When we disperse camp like we did last week, we wash in a collapsible basin and dump the dish water outside just as one would do tent camping.

I had to install a new countertop because I couldn’t cover the old sink and faucet cutouts with the new sink.
