Very Old Honda 2000i Generator and Houghton 9500

In planning our trip to New Mexico and Colorado it was time to see if our very old Honda 2000i generator could power the Houghton 9500 in our 21C. Will be spending some time in Palo Duro Canyon and am sure we will need it if we do not get hookups.

The Honda did just fine. I believe the 9500 comes with a soft start, though I could not tell it when it started up. The generator just kind of burped as it ramped up to meet the demand and then purred like a kitten at the higher speed.

Doubt we will be able to run any other ac items while the air conditioner is on, but that is just a management problem.

I am very pleased.

My old mid 2004 Honda 2000 starts and runs our Colman 13500 with the factory soft start up to at least 1000 feet. I have not tried higher yet.

I bought a 1300 watt Honda generator to run a baseball pitching machine in the spring of 1985
When I stopped at that shop a couple years ago that generator was setting out on a bench. They had used it that morning. It was 35 years old at the time. The only thing it wouldn’t do was run a big gear drive circular saw cutting 3 by 10s. Had to get a bigger generator from another shop for that. We had several 6500 Hondas by the time I left.
