Haughton 9500, 21C, Performance in Texas Heat

We installed a Houghton 9500 shortly after returning home from Sumas, but no real test until last week when we took it to Goose Island SP. It performed very well, set at 73, running continuously for 5 days. Seemed to cycle often, but apparently that's normal. Don't know why, I am sure it's not too large. It's very quiet and we're quite pleased and glad we didn't get the Dometic.

Here are a couple of photos, first one about 7 AM, the other about 4 PM. We think holding a 21 degree difference is pretty good.

LOVE to hear this. Doing the same thing, but on a E19. It's the drive from Sumas to Prairie du Chien Wis., that won't be fun.

Thanks for sharing.
Makes me feel better about our plan to use the same unit on our new 21NE.

Take the sensor thats inside the cover n place it outside the cover and it won’t short cycle so to speak. Someone else posted to do that. We had to do that on our 9500 and it now cycles perfectly. No short cycling

Thanks for the tip, but I cannot find any such sensor, nor is it shown in the owners manual. I did remove the inner cover, but could not see anything that looks like a sensor. Is it on the inside of the trailer, or outside under exterior cover? If you could provide a photo it would very helpful.

Great to know the 9500 BTU can handle the heat. If my Dometic ever dies I'll certainly be considering replacing it with the Haughton.

Of course the other question is how is the noise level?

It is very quiet. Can converse at normal levels, no more yelling.

We did this mod too and it made a huge difference. I'm attaching the only pic I have of the sensor. Inside the trailer, remove the large white plastic cover. You will find this sensor on the driver side, near the back corner. Examine the styrofoam carefully and you will see it. We just snipped the cable ties and pulled it to the edge as far as possible away from where the cold air comes out and then replaced the plastic cover.

Houghton AC units are much quieter than the Dometic or the Coleman. Samuel from Escape saw my Houghton in action at the Fl egg rally... He couldn't believe how quiet it was.. It was in Heat pump mode on a unusually cold day (for Florida) but its no louder in AC mode... I think it will only be a matter of time until this will be an option on ETI trailers...

Here the sensor I’m referring to hanging done . It’s up inside as the other pic shows. Carefully snip the zip tie n have about 1 inch outside the cover. Hope this helps

Thanks to both of you. I wouldn't have found it without the photos. All fixed.

Thanks for sharing. We continue to be happy with our Houghton install. 100º+ this summer already, and our E19-F1 is quite comfortable - as cold as we want.

How many BTUs

We’re purchasing a 21NE (!!!) and are going to install the Houghton AC. How many BTUs do we need?

The 9500 is plenty for our 21C in Texas. If you go too large it will cycle on and off and never really achieve an even temperature.

Thank you! I also took note of the relocation of temperature sensor. Safe travels!

Smile Question on Houghton 9500

Hi all, since we are on the subject, I have a question for those who have installed this air conditioner (I am considering it). I am attaching a screen shot to make sure this is the right unit. I am also wondering if I need to also order
the "thick roof" kit that is offered. Thanks, Val

You do not need the thick roof option
