You will find that it doesn't stick up as high as the Dometic and gives more headroom inside also.

Check the link you posted. Scroll down to the blue details box. Mentions lo amp draw and not needing to add a soft start.

I have the 13.5 Houghton and added the Micro Air Easy Start so that I can run it with my Honda 2200 generator. Happy with both!

when you run AC with generator, do you shut off battery charger or other 120 Volt loads?....Did you ever try your AC on gen without the soft start?

Thank you for finally confirming this. I was scolded by a member or two who believed my suggestion of 9500 BTU Houghton being enough for a 19 and 21 "in the south" was misguided. Despite a mechanical engineering degree, a background in HVAC and personal experience camping in very hot weather with a 9,000 BTU mini-split. The risk with oversized RV A/C's is without an inverter compressor they can't ramp down and will short cycle with poor dehumidifying. In defense of the naysayers there are probably plenty of RV air conditioners out there not producing the nameplate BTU's (as they are not AHRI rated) which has naturally driven trailer owners to become dissatisfied and feel upsizing is necessary.

Rubicon totally agree it’s more than enough. I pulled out our 21 todo some work in the trailer barn and again let it sit out in the sun (102 degrees) closed up till about 4 pm . Opened up to a blast of heat lol n fired up our 9500. It took about 15 min to coll it down to 78 degrees then 10 more to stay at 73/74. We live in the DFW area.

I fell into the trap of "bigger is better" for camping in Big Bend. Well, it isn't. Next time I win the lottery I will be downsizing to 9500 btu.

I just picked up my new E19(no AC installed) & am at my Brother's in Wis. Where my new Houghton 9.5 is sitting in his garage to put on. Today I got the the vent off. Whatever ETI is using to putting on the vent now, Peeled right off easy, almost all in one piece, screw head blobs too! The vent's flange came up easy, as it was not yet cured underneath.

So anyone one on the fence about ordering a trailer without AC to put a Houghton on. Do it right away! Much easier to remove the vent, everyone seems to have problems with.

Update post Rockhead Mod

Moved the sensor per recommendation by Rockhead.

Current readings: Outside 108 Inside 71

That is outstanding! We are very happy.

Not to stir the pot, but more of an observation. I find the the short cycling issue seems to be both on the 9.5K and the 13.5K Houghton units. Enough so that they both often need to be modified to achieve acceptable performance for the owner.

My comments regarding the sizing of a unit assumes it is working properly and achieves the cooling capacity as advertised.

Were I considering purchasing a 9500 having to do the mod wouldn't slow me down at all. It takes less than 10 minutes with a pair of side cutters for the zip ties. The performance of the unit is well worth it.

My 3400 compressor seems to run about 3 miuntues on and 3 minutes off. This is totally shaded in my garage with the outdoor temperature about 85 degrees. What does the 9500 cycIing frequency look like in similar conditions?
