Thank you very much for sharing! Seemed like they have two models - A and B. The choice depends upon the various awning types, but we do not know what comes with Escape 5. Do you know which one would fit Escape 5.0 manual awning?
We will have to find someone to install it but I will order one as soon as I know which type to order.

Lot of awning talk today…
Ten different rigs over 40 years, spent nearly as much time under the awning as inside sleeping. We spend a lot of time keeping out of sun and rain when we camp.
Our first Escape was a 19, they came standard with the power awning. Our current rig is a 5.0TA, and we opted for the standard manual awning: cheaper and better for being unattended when it rains.

You can give them a call and they will get the right one sent to you. The lock is very simple to install. You’ll see when it arrives, comes with complete instruction.

The manual awning used is a Carefree (as in Carefree of Colorado) Fiesta.

Looks like a thread that's run it's course but I'll throw in my two cents: I would not consider getting an Escape (or any trailer for that matter) without an awning - and the bigger the better. Many happy hours spent under it. And given the choice between manual and electric, we would once again go manual. We love the Fiesta Carefree.

awning stains
Has anyone used Wet and Forget on the awning. it works for the black stuff that grows on vinyl siding on the north side of my house. Im thinking a periodic spray on the awning would keep the black stains away.

I've used the 303 Aerospace all surface cleaner followed by the 303 aerospace protectant on mine. the first time the cleaning took a fair bit of elbow crease, but successive cleanings have been quite easy

Awesome found at the Dollar Store is great for cleaning awnings. Wet the awning, spray Awesome on, roll-up awning for 10 minutes, extend awning and rinse. Has worked wonders for us on any awning we have owned.

If you are unfamiliar - VanB is referring to LA's Totally Awesome All Purpose Concentrated Cleaner. Can be found in Dollar Stores but also available at Amazon, Home Depot, Lowe's...

Bleach is not good for the stitching on awning.
Carefree of Colorado says to us gentle soap, water and a soft brush.
FYI: Does Awesome cleaner have bleach in it? PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL HAZARDS: This product contains bleach. Do not use or mix this product with other household chemicals, such as ammonia, toilet bowl cleaners, rust removers or acid, as this releases hazardous gases.

Maybe a reformulation over the years? From their website:
“What is LA’s Totally Awesome All Purpose Cleaner ® made from?
LA’s Totally Awesome All Purpose Cleaner ® is a blend of water, surfactant (surface-active) agents, color and scent. Surfactant agents lift grease and oil up off of the surface. LA’s Totally Awesome All Purpose Cleaner ® is a safe, naturally gentle soap, specially formulated for cleaning a variety of surfaces like floors, furniture, and other household surfaces. And it leaves your home smelling fresh and clean. LA’s Totally Awesome All Purpose Cleaner ® contains no harsh detergents, ammonia, or bleach.”

We don't want an awning because we don't want to deal with keeping it clean, undamaged from the wind, etc. The first thought was to order it without the awning, but ETI does not give a credit if you opt out of having it.
It would be nice to have it when it comes time to sell the trailer, so I have been thinking about ordering the trailer with a manual awning, then just take it off and store it until we sell it.
Question: How hard would it be to take the awning off? Is there any reason that would be a bad idea?

We use the awning as much to keep our refrigerator out of the heat of the sun as we do to keep ourselves in the shade or protected from the rain. I would highly recommend getting one.

The refrigerator is on the drivers side of the trailer in the 21C. The awning wouldn't shield it.

Good point though. Might help someone with a 17A or B with fridge on passenger side.

We had a unique situation where as our trailer was being built, Escape changed the options so that you could get a manual awning, which is what we wanted but a power awning was the only option at our order time. Rather than take off the horizontal mounting bracket for the power awning, they left it on and then installed the manual awning mounting bracket over top of it. They felt that was a better option than patching holes where the first bracket had been. There are many opinions on the awnings. One that I wished I would have read is that it depends on your travel style with regards to which one- we more often stay 2-3 days in one spot and move on, and don’t spend a lot of time at the trailer, we are off exploring. We rarely use our awning. You can open the windows about an inch with the manual awning, but at times it can be a pain. I don’t like the idea of the complications of breaking down with a power awning though. If we camped at a lake for a week and stayed at our trailer the whole time, our awning would get used more.
