Replacing outside grab handle by door

I just booked my outside grab handle on a gate bracket and need to replace it. Ideas please?

If it was the hard plastic grab handle like what came stock on the 2010’s this Atwood handle works perfect. Almost exact hole spacing and available in black and white. Replaced it years ago and holding up pretty well.

Hi Dave ! Do you think there is maybe stainless or something better you would recommend ? I am not afraid and know got to install some backing if larger spacing . The original not a fan and have changed to stainless wherever I could . Makes trailer 2013 look nicer ! Pat

I'm not Dave and I'm not making a recommendation, but there's this: https://www.amazon.com/ESUDNT-Handle...dp/B0B4BCF94N?

Good to see that you're still around Pat. We haven't crossed the border since Mar. 2020 but will be this weekend. Maybe we'll get down your way in the new year. It's been awhile.

Thanks Donna. I'm finishing a bare f.g. shell camper and was just thinking this morning that I should get a grab handle beside the door. Much safer. I like s/s also and that one more than the ETI one or those large ones that you see on a lot of RVs.

Hi, Pat.
Glad to see you're still around. We're still out and about w/our 2015 E17, that we purchased largely based on your recommendations and the tour of your 19.

FYI: look out your front door: those clouds are a precursor to something called "rain" that we all may get this weekend (Tropical disturbance Hillary).

All sorts of nice stainless railings and grab bars from the marine industry... you won't find the good stuff at a place like West Marine, rather, talk with a shop that does custom fiberglass boat repairs.... won't be cheap.

Thanks for the replies. I was really looking to understand how it is attached. Looks like giant pop rivets. If I drill these out what then?
Thanks.

my fiberglass repair guy would probably glass in blocks of machinable hard plastic (I think its HDPE, but I'm not sure), glass and gelcoat over them so you can't tell he's been there, and drill and tap them for whatever size bolt would be suitable for the new handles. As my wife is 5'2" short and has trouble pulling her self up, and her sister who occasionally visits us is only 4' tall, and definitely needs help, I've toyed with installing a much longer stainless grab bar that start below 4' off the ground and goes up as high as the current handle.

FWIW Centex did a large handle but he ordered without and was able to get to the backside on his Gen2 trailer.

Not knowing the hole centers or construction of the OP's earlier Gen Escape I'd hesitated to post.

But FYI the stud-mounted stainless steel 'marine' handle I used is now available on Amazon (USA) in several lengths - here I've linked them based on the center-to-center stud spacing from the SeaDog catalog (254224-1 is the one I installed, pics and details in the post linked above)

254209-1 10" C-to-C studs https://www.amazon.com/AMRS-254209-1.../dp/B083TLX5GM

254212-1 12" C-to-C studs https://www.amazon.com/SEA-DOG-25421.../dp/B00P195V86

254224-1 24-1/4" C-to-C studs https://www.amazon.com/Sea-Dog-Stain.../dp/B00P1HUS40

There's also 254218-1 in the SeaDog catalog with 18" C-to-C studs, but I don't find it on Amazon.

Mine looks like new and remains solidly mounted, still very happy with it. Sorta surprised that even with full-sun exposure in 105F ambient (we've had that daily here for too long) it's never hot-to-the touch. Just one of many alternatives, may or may not be suitable for a retrofit to any particular trailer.

Hi Pat. I was just on Boat Outfitters and came across this stainless steel handle that just so happens to have the same (or very close) hole-to-hole spacing as the original. Will require one to get to the backside though and maybe use different fasteners. All the stuff I buy from them for my boat is top notch.

Hi Dave ! No problem . I did get one from the source from Donna gave me ,on Amazon , coming by Thursday . I pulled light switch on doorway I have 3 there . I also have a lighted camera going to check again today too. It looks like rivets so far . They used 4 . I bought some larger ones . I really if I don’t have to want to make any cuts or holes in fiberglass at this time . Besides the better stainless hinges for door and the plastic door catch , also changed to stainless I have done ,think the larger rivets will work . I did sign up for the site you sent though . Thankyou Dave 👍🏻 Pat
