BTW Dave you forgot to let me know about your ND trip timing but see you made it earlier in August.

It's been a great rally here in SD, see my comments on the Inyan rally thread, now only about six trailers left here by Sturgis.

Back on topic and the Escape rally, there's been questions about having one east of the Mississippi. Well we already have one although not sponsored by Escape right on the east bank of the river! Living in the centre of Canada right on the border with the US we would like a rally somewhere in the Eastern US where we could access the location just as easily as Osoyoos.

Adrian That's not a bad location. You and I would have to travel about the same distance. I would prefer someplace a little more to the east but that would be a good compromise location for most folks in the US

May have to find someplace different then Thomson Causeway which floods sometimes and may not be equipped to handle 150 campers? I think most would prefer full hookups and I'm sure there is a KOA not too far away that could handle a rally.

Jim , what type of time frame are we talking ? Two days , three days , 4 days , a week ?
If we’re only talking a 2 or 3 day rally then Thomson would probably work . If we’re talking a week then things change . We spent 5 nights at Thomson Causeway during last year’s rally and everything was fine .

There is a KOA in the upper Michigan peninsula that has shuttles to the ferry to Mackinac Island where only bikes and horse drawn carriages are the mode of transportation. sounds like a interesting place to visit.https://koa.com/campgrounds/st-ignace/

As a canoeist, Deliverance is one of my favourite movies. I have it on DVD.

At Osoyoos, the rally normally starts on Wednesday and ends Sunday, the sites are full hookups and showers require a loonie to operate. Thursday was local pub night and Friday as Escape provided dinner with Saturday potluck. I'll have a better feel for Thomson in 3 weeks but in 2016 it flooded and the rally was elsewhere. Something to consider for maybe 50-75 Escapes? Looking forward to your gravy....

You can always put more clothes on ( if you have them) but you can only take so many off. I’ve lived in the upper Midwest for a lot of years and haven’t really noticed the cold.
Northern Minnesota, North Dakota, Sweetgrass, Montana, it gets cold up there.

My takeaway from this thread's ramblings - leave my banjo home if I attend again...

Well, if you're leaving your banjo home I'd better not bring my accordion then...

I'll have my guitar if I was to come, though rarely play with a group around.

Can you play the Dick Contino version of Lady of Spain?

We were tasked with “cleaning out the house” of one of Rita’s uncles. He left behind a bunch of record albums, most of them pretty unremarkable but one was a Dick Contino album. I listened to it and even though I’m not a big accordion fan I do recognize virtuosity and Contino had it. Having been raised in a Czech dominated city, my contact with accordion was frequent from local TV programming to school kids playing accordions at talent shows to a local touring group called Arlene Boddicker and her Accordion Aces. And way back a local organization called Joe Fisher and his Concertina Orchestra. Now replaced by Barefoot Becky and her Ivanhoe Dutchmen.

I grew up watching Myron Floren on the Lawrence Welk show. After moving to Texas I went to Wurstfest in New Braunfels one year - every accordionist in central Texas would go there and play Happy Birthday to Myron Floren, the highlight of the festival every year.

We were in Strasburg, North Dakota last month but did not take in the Lawrence Welk Museum. I did not want to chance the retribution from my 11 year old grandson who was with us. I’m a sound sleeper and the 21 is not that large.

Spent 15 years in northern Sweet Grass County Montana. One of the Everly Brothers had a song "Sweet Grass County Montana"
