re: Sherlines... probably not as accurate, but close enough, and IF you can get them (readily available in Australia and Canada but hard to find in the USA), there's a tubular spring scale, sold by Princess Auto stores in .CA, which works well enough in our weight range. it measures KG, but thats easy enough to translate, 450 lbs is about 205 kg.

The only issue I see with these is that the tongue weight depends on the tongue height, and these scales are not adjustable for height. If the scale is too short it can just be used on a block of suitable height, but if it's too tall there's no way to get a good reading.

i have one, and with my trailer somewhere between 400 and 500 lbs tongue weight, the tongue is almost exactly the same height it is hitched. m +/- an inch of tongue height doesn't make /that/ much difference in the weight on an e21

I take it you purchased one while in Canada? I went to order one using the link you posted but they only let you select Canada for delivery. Definitely a great price, thank you.

Good to know. I probably don't want to cut corners with tires. They're like shoes and beds. Well worth spending a bit more on.

I have had the KO2 tires on my Tacoma for 60,000 miles now. First set lasted about 45,000 miles. We do a lot of 4 wheeling (but not stump climbing) and nothing seems to stop the tires.

There is no way the front storage box is 100 lbs. That thing is so light I could carry it on my shoulder like a ghetto blaster. It does have a 100lbs capacity. Any storage box you mount there will be more than Escapes storage box. It is light and really well built. In comparison, my canoe is 68lbs and I carry that no problem and it is 1/3 the size. Having a SUV I highly suggest you get the storage box. You needs somewhere to put dirty stuff like leveling blocks, tools and I put the empties and garbage in there.

As far as moving the batteries, moving them from the storage box to inside under the dinette will only save you a couple pounds and not worth the trouble.

When you setup the Weight Distribution hitch, you move tongue weight from your rear axle to your trailer axle and tow vehicle front axle so you should be able to maintain 500lbs. I would send you to the CAT scales to fine tune your setup if your concerned. There are many videos on YouTube about hitch setup and weighing at the CAT scales.

I want to believe you I really do but have you removed it and lifted it off the trailer or are you just guestimating based on the feel? In Escapes own video that they put on YouTube it's stated as being "close to 100lbs". Karl and Samuel do not dispute this in the video. Surely they would have said something if the box was only like 25lbs.

When you look at it it's huge, equal to width of the trailer. And needs to be structurally sound enough to not fall apart being empty and a Rock guard at the front of the trailer. Again I really want to believe you because fiberglass isn't supposed to be heavy but unless you've lifted it off the trailer I'm going with Escapes video. Browse to 21:08 for description of weight.

Also in this video the reviewer states it has a 50lb max capacity and you can see a sticker saying the same. Are there different versions for different trailers? Not sure why yours is a 100lb capacity?

actually, it showed up on Amazon, I think. about twice the C$ price but still way cheaper than a Sherline.

Strange, when did they de-rate the capacity? Ours is stickered at 100 lbs.

Never lifted it, but I can't image it weighs anywhere near 100#.

You can find bathroom scales that are capable of 550 lbs, are cheaper than the sherline, and are more accurate than the sherline.

If 550 is enough. That a really heavy person, but not crazy for a 21 tongue.

There's different weight capacity stickers in the storage box depending on where the batteries are located.

So it's based on battery location and not battery type? I thought all Escape trailers had the battery in the storage box except the 17 which puts them on the back bumper?

No, the 21 and I think the 5.0 have the batteries in the bench seat in dinette area. That is probably the difference between the 100 lb and 50 lb stickers for some of the front storage boxes.

Are you sure that's not just trailers built for Canadian customers? I've read that Escape will not put batteries inside the trailer due to venting codes.

Even after researching Escape trailers since March I keep learning surprising things every day.

The batteries inside are vented via an exterior vent on the side of the trailer.....

https://www.theescapeforum.com/forum...de-the-trailer

According to Samuel on Escapes forum they don't install batteries inside the trailer. Maybe they used to but no longer do.

Edit: I apologize, looks like I misread the post. Samuel is speaking about the 19 and 21NE not being able to be installed inside.
