I have never gotten wet removing the anode. I always wait a couple of days until the water inside the tank has lowered to ambient temperature, open a faucet inside the trailer to allow air into the plumbing and slowly remove the anode rather than removing it all the way out. It will start to flow around the threads before it is completely removed and after a minute or so the anode can be completely removed without a blast/forceful squirt of the water heater’s contents. Nor have I ever had the anode become a “projectiles” as some members have described. The key is to eliminate any pressure inside the tank.
