No worries Donna. The typical transporter only has a range of about 40,000 kilometers. Beyond that, you still have to 'travel'. [emoji23]

I don't know enough about a transporter journey to add any enlightenment! They seldom showed the journey through the transporter on TV, and that was only when something went catastrophically wrong and those being transported were in peril and needed to be saved - usually by Spock's logic combined with Captain Kirk's heroism. For all I know, it could be Stressless recliners and complimentary wine all the way. But as long as we're talking about it, it seems only fitting that, if and when such a transporter becomes reality, you and Ten Forward be the first to make the trip. So to make it official, I hereby nominate Donna D and Ten Forward be first aboard any future transporter. Is there a second to the nomination?

And once again Donna D is the voice of reason.

But just barely. I'll second that nomination.

Upon further reflection, this begs the question - When Captain Kirk went on vacation (did he ever take a vacation?), did he slip it into warp speed just to get to his next point of interest more quickly? Or did he keep it low and slow to enjoy the ride? Inquiring minds want to know.... Or, has this finally gotten too far off the original electric F-150 topic?

Who needs a transporter? Remember Total Recall movie, you took a vacation on your lunch hour.

Don't know if Kirk took a vacation, but in ST-TNG Captain Picard did; he went home to France to visit his brother. Best episode of the series IMHO.

In Star Trek V, The Final Frontier, Kirk, McCoy and Spock start the film by taking shore leave and camping in Yosemite. After they save the galaxy, they resume their vacation and sing camp songs and roast “marshmellons”.

I just logged in and read this thread from beginning to end. Not much to add. I have a Chevy Bolt and 13KW Solar panels powering it and my Geo-thermal furnace. Payback on the whole mess was about 7 years. After that my return is about $2800 over the warranted years of the solar (25) and anything that it lasts after that. This is at least 50,000 dollars saving over its life without interest. I'm lucky I had the money to invest in it, but I did it mostly to prove it could be done. So many naysayers, but it works for me financially.

Much of the discussion turns into the environmental impacts and you can get all kinds of support for whatever your narrative is. But you sure get sensitive to the exhaust fumes coming from ICE vehicles. But ultimately I have a Honda Pilot because the Bolt isn't going to pull the Escape 19 I just ordered.

Actually, Donna had it figured when she got her 5.0TA: the relaxing destination after your work shift was over on the Enterprise was - Ten-Forward. { I'll have my Guinness now, thank you. }

Is Donna D actually Guinan? I don't see the resemblance myself but it could be. The time frame overlaps sufficiently and if you want to find her, ten forward is the place to look. Then there is the quirkiness.

Explosion and fire caused by car powered by natural gas

I'm reviving this thread on alternative fuels to post a link to this story about a fire and explosion in Bangladesh caused by a car powered by natural gas. Although safety standards in the U.S. and Canada are certainly higher than those in some other countries, the fact remains that flammable gas under pressure is dangerous. In my opinion it shouldn't be used to power cars.
