We have a love/hate relationship with our a/c. It sounds like a jet taking off so, although we like it cold at night we never have it on in the night. Just use fans. However, for those times when it’s 30+++ degrees, it’s really nice for making the bed, sometimes for cooking when cooking indoors, after hiking, biking, or visiting towns and needing to cool off for a moment . And, rarely, we use it when it’s just too damned hot for a nap! But the noise! So is it worth it for those moments? We would say yes.

My 2007 17B has the window shaker above the fridge, not the loud rooftop units like our previous trailers. I way prefer the window shaker, $99 to replace, easy to clean.

Do you need AC, when we pulled into Zion National Park, it was 44 degrees Celsius, plug the AC in as fast as you can.

Yes Doug, but at least you got to pull in to Zion NP. That's like winning the lottery these days. Often booked a year or more in advance.

I have a question about adding a AC unit to an older 2010 17B. Can it be done?
If it can does anyone have a suggestion who can do this kind of work other than the factory.

I'd send an email to ETI with the VIN as ask if the trailer is "AC ready". If it is, you should be good. If not, it's probably too much work and expense to add roof AC.

Didn't the 2010 17' have A/C above the refrigerator and not on the roof? IF so, you just need power, no roof enforcement needed.

Good catch there Donna, yes the early 17's a/c's were wall mounted and I do not believe that the shroud reinforced roofs were standard until 2013, definitely not in 2010.

As far as I know my 2009 could have been made "A/C ready", which would have meant reinforcing the roof. I didn't choose that option. There was no mention of sticking A/C in a cupboard.

Reinforcing a FG roof for an A/C unit sounds like factory work to me. Don't know that I'd trust any other shops, who don't know the Escape well enough do decide what it needs or doesn't need.

ETI told me about $1500 for the job, IIRC.

We were looking for used Escape 19s and our 1st requirement was that it has AC. We were contacted by several NW owners who wanted to sell their trailers but did not have AC, pre-wired for but not installed. We declined, and eventually bought new to get exactly the trailer that met our needs.

Well, we went to Chilliwack today and did the build sheet-not getting the A/C. Decided we will try it out as is as the trailer is prewired and we can add the A/C later if we want it being that we are close to the factory. Tested out the fans and it felt like there was a lot of air moving though the trailer. Got the extra window for the kitchen. Didn't know we are saving some of the extra tariff charges since it's before the end of the month which is a nice surprise. Was disappointed to learn about the new doors, they don't sound that great. Apparently they only open to 90 degrees without removing some of the hardwear and you have to figure out how to keep them open on your own. Hoping we made the right option decisions but feeling confident we will love the trailer. Pick up/orientation is on March 18th and are in the midst of planning a trip to Utah for most of April. Signed up for the rally as well while we were there, looking forward to the wine tour!

Don't know the new door, but this https://www.amazon.com/NU-SET-RV010-.../dp/B00CJ0KS88 is what holds open the door on the Classic. My Starcraft, which had the normal flat RV door, had the same, just a shorter version of it. Mine's installed with rivets.

There are a few different styles of these if you look around.

Our 2010 17B had factory, roof-mounted AC.

I live in the southern US and I would advice people that are purchasing new Escapes to add factory AC at the time they are built. The reason is that when it comes time to move up or to move on you will have a trailer that will be marketable in all of Canada and the US and not just the upper latitudes. That increases the potentail buyers pool greatly.

Escape has these door holders and will install one at pickup-we just had that done.

THanks for the door handle info. Will get working on that. Hope escape will install it, the salewoman told us no but will ask again when we go to pick it up. looking forward to see how everyone sets up their trailer at the rally.

I was informed, no install, but available for purchase. Warning for E19 owners and possibly E17 owners, if you have the awning windows, you will need the extended version to prevent door from contacting the open window. It appears that the bath window on the E21 is not impacted. The stock version is too short.
