Tomorrow sees a clamp down on things here in Alberta. While tough on folks, it is needed. This will be my first Christmas in 64 of them without spending it with family. It will likely be my wife, son and myself. I will miss the normal fun, but so will everyone.

Next Christmas, watch out. We are going to have a great time.

This is a horribly fast spreading disease that is just reaching its peak has now killed almost THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND AMERICANS IN LESS THAN 1 YEAR!

How many times must people ask if its okay to travel?:

Be safe everyone!
Thanks for your post. Weve cancelled family gatherings right and left and it hurts us all but as a family we know what is best and most safe. We have hope and knowledge, we should be in as good a shape as possible

Sounds similar to what we ran into in the spring when much of the northeast took a beating. Suddenly the small towns in the Berkshires of MA saw a big influx of folks escaping New York and New Jersey that normally don't show up till summer vacations.

They have yet to leave.

Think I will hook up and take the trailer out today - and just drive it around the block. Oh, wait -- we don't have blocks around here.

We have done a good job since March wearing masks, distancing, etc. We have oldest in Jr year of college and a Senior in HS. Many of you know the Quartzsite kids! Unfortunately, with the push for kids to return to school, their exposure is our exposure.
On Thursday our daughter developed a cough and low grade fever. She has been quarantined in the MBdr and earliest testing we could get was Friday for all of us. We sit awaiting the test results which take 3-5 days to see if this is the Rona or a false alarm.
Our neighbors across the street are locked in their MBdr both positive and fighting Rona, while their kids similar ages to ours stay away and fend for themselves. We pray they will make it OK.
This is the new reality.

Haven't been on the forum of late and now I'm glad I decided to log in to bask in the glow of sanity that prevails here. My daughter is a respiratory therapist at a hospital in Silicon Valley and she tells me of the stories that are happening at hospitals all over the Valley. She and her coworkers are exhausted and, at times, have to cry on each others' shoulders just to get through the day. Some in our distant family consistently profess their belief that the numbers are all fake, that Covid is no worse than the flu and that the "Government" has no right to tell you what to do. My SIL's family (not him) had Thanksgiving together and five are now Covid positive ... and laughing about it because they "get time off work". Naturally, we distance ourselves from them but it's heartbreaking to see intelligent people, falling for this drivel even when health care professionals they know are saying otherwise. We made plans to camp in Utah in late March and am now wondering if even that was far enough out.

I'm not leaving on a trip in my Escape until May 1. If I am fortunate enough to get vaccinated earlier in 2021 then I may make a short trip to test out the latest mods to the trailer. No long trips until May, though.

Perhaps Florida is not so dangerous after all. An article in the Washington Post describes the vaccine roll-out per state. But the interesting part is that it gives COVID cases per capita over the past week for each state. Florida is ranked 45th. That's pretty good.:

Again, the State of Florida has been manipulating our data and the state is in much worse shape than it appears. We also have Governor who denies that Covid is real. So, don't expect people around you to be taking precautions, maintaining social distancing, or wearing masks.

Florida medical examiners were releasing coronavirus death data. The state made them stop.

TAMPA BAY TIMES - April 29, 2020

The list had previously been released in real time by the state Medical Examiners Commission. But earlier this month, after the Tampa Bay Times reported that the medical examiners’ death count was 10 percent higher than the figure released by the Florida Department of Health, state officials said the list needed to be reviewed and possibly redacted.

Florida police raid COVID data whistleblower’s house with guns drawn

SOUTH FLORIDA SUN SENTINEL - December 07, 2020

State police raided the home of a former Department of Health data scientist who is accusing Florida officials of wrongfully firing her for refusing to manipulate COVID-19 statistics.

Mike, if you knew the people I know down there, you might reconsider that opinion.

That place is largely out of control. I do love it and there are nice people everywhere. That is totally a CYA statement.

I don't view the Washington Post as being particularly sympathetic to our governor, and I don't think it would accept statistics from Florida at face value. So I'm willing to believe the information in the article referenced above.

In my county at least, I am seeing widespread compliance with masks and social distancing. It's been a long time coming imho, but it's here. Good.

Compliance would mean there is a requirement to do so. Since there is no requirement, you can't have 'compliance'. You have people wearing masks and social distancing in spite of the lack of leadership or requirement to do so.

There can be requirements and subsequent compliance on private property and there is and there is. If you think you’re going to push past the retired NFL linebacker body at the door of our local Walmart, I’d pay to see it. You are correct in your overall assessment of the lack of leadership, especially if you are referring to the state of Iowa. Don’t know about your state.

You can have compliance with recommendations.

"No Shoes, No Shirts, No Service" Lots of private businesses have added: "No Masks" at the beginning.
