WOW! Well, they say that when you are crabby after such an experience, it bodes well! I hope he gets home as soon as practically healthful. Thanks for the news, Telescopist.

Relieved to see that bit of encouraging news.

Sounds relatively good, all things considered. Hope the road to improvement is quick.

Hi: h2owmn... Taking into account a serious Whipple maybe the Dr's missed a little bit of stuffing, or maybe it was leftover scrapple, or maybe his grits... hope whatever it was is gone now!!! Alf

Thanks for the update Richard. Reading "Compassionate Care" caused me to hold my breath. I hope that's now been removed from the conversation and this latest setback is just that, a setback and he's now moving forward to better health.

Alf, whatever it was, I hope it has been eliminated from causing any problem.

Jim's a tough bird, Donna. I wouldn't bet against him not making it through this latest crisis. Once again I'd like to say that Noelia is a precious person. Her capacity for rational thought mixed with a loving response is something we will not soon forget.

I just hope it wasn't those Chile, Cheese Grits he pictured that he made for Thanksgiving that caused the setback.
Go Jim, we're all rooting for you and a full recovery!

A Jim Norman Update

Jim's out of ICU. He's still half out of it. Eight plus hours in surgery will do that...The half that's with it (maybe not quite a half) called Noelia at @11pm and asked her to come over to the hospital in order to turn off the lights in his room.

She wonders whether he will unexpectedly show up at their front door in his green gown.

Jim's not allowed any visitors. The York hospital has gotten slammed and now has over 100 seriously ill COVID patients.

The long term prognosis for Jim is not unlike reading tea leaves. Each day which passes as long as he (or anyone) is not in acute pain is a gift.

Thanks for the continuing updates. Let me/us know if they need anything. Meal delivery? Devices for him to be comfortable at home?

I'll pass that offer and concern off to Noelia. She's only 25 minutes away from us. So far she has quietly demurred anytime we have offered help. But she knows we are here so that's the main thing. Noelia is in the medical profession and has taken many precautions re: COVID not the least of which is because she is also a cancer survivor. For example she orders her groceries online. Then they are put in the trunk of her car.

I think the main thing is the anxiety associated with so many unknowns which she is dealing with. We try to be good listeners which I suspect she appreciates. Particularly since we avoid loading the conversation with 'advice'.
