I was talking to Rita about this and her take was also that fiscal responsibility should be a parental duty. I know that we had an excellent person teaching personal finance merit badge in scouts. The boys had a personal troop account and the entire financial function of how savings and disbursements worked was thoroughly explained to them. Abuses of the system, social security disability abuse, loopholes, etc. all that stuff has impacted society greatly in the past few decades. If pension funds are not looted and payouts are based on accurate and sliding actuarial data, there's no reason why they should not work. In my opinion

Headed to the caucus in about an hour. That's as political as I will get.

Yes, I believe you are correct, however, we have no knowledge of how Escape takes in their payments and where they put them. They would have figured this out, I expect, and may be doing just that with some of their money. Most of their expenses, however, are likely payments to Canadians.

Yes, moving their money to US$ (or just keeping US$ they receive in US$) would "lock in" the rate they paid for the US$. If the Canadian dollar continues to fall, then that's a good strategy (assuming they have extra $$ they can leave in US funds for their supply purchases for the year.) Of course if the Canadian dollar goes the other way, then it's a money loser. No different than US Escape buyers who have to decide when is the best time to convert your money. But it certainly is a reasonable strategy if you're going to have to buy $XXX amount of US parts and your selling price is locked in for the year, again assuming you have available funds. Or another strategy would be currency options to hedge the fluctuating exchange rate.

Most of the pensions that need looked at are government ,and city, county . Of course private workers working for companies not doing so well concerning pensions . My brother retired from dept of water and power and he himself says his pension is obscene. His buddies many times sit and take naps or watch DVD 's on company time . Did you ever watch the city come and trim trees on your street . 5 guys , some just standing around to trim a little tree . Why not it is not coming out of there pockets . Sorry to sound so negative but sometimes it is depressing . Where is personal responsibility ? Pat

Civil servants pay taxes too, some don't pay into social security, and only have a pension. Most pension funds would be solvent, if politicians did not raid them. What one person sees as obscene, might not be to another. Some folks are married, raise families, and send their kids to college. I'm so sick of people beating up on the working man and women. If anyone thinks they are getting paid to much, or their pension is to big, give it back or give it away.

I assume the discussion about 'price increase' can continue (it's interesting') but the part about municipal workers might have hit a nerve for you?

Could you please clarify what should cease??

Slagging any individual or group of people, disguised as a discussion of pensions or any other issue is not permitted.
Price increase is a legitimate topic.

I agree with Glenn, I can already feel my blood pressure rising, and that's not why I come here.

One of the things that I like about this forum is that it is focused on trailers and camping, free of politics and religion. I can go to other places to reinforce my political beliefs

Hey Dave,
Since I will no longer be using that Sherline, you can have it. Just be sure and offer others at various rallies the chance to use it, it can become a "group" scale passed around. Not sure how to measure pin weight?
