Crappy storage box latches
Searching for a stainless steel version of the storage box latches so I don't have to repaint them every year due to rust. Anybody find something?

Do you think it is due to wear and tear of padlocks rocking back and forth during travel?

Mine rust and only put a lock on it when stationary. Other than that they do work fairly well- not sure the one listed on Amazon are adjustable. Might try same vendor Pat got those nice door hinges from Western Hardware in Walnut, CA. They fabricated the door hinges.

Adjustable is not needed if installed correctly. I have never adjusted my locks on my 3 Escapes. So measure and install right the first time.

I am in the same boat and have been searching for a while. I even asked the hinge people since they sell a lot of other things of the same type. Nope they did not carry or know who might carry the adjustable latch we have on the storage box. I have talked to West Marine and a few other Marine supply places none have seen the type we have in stainless. Oh and on another note do not think to replace the door holder with a stainless one as the hole spacing on the stainless is just enough off to make it unworkable. I am in the process of doing it now as my door holder was broken by the folks I had wax the trailer. I have filled the one set of holes that are off and need to reshape the mount pads as they look bleh squared off no radius etc. Functional but ascetically ugly.
CpaHarley , I believe he is as I am looking for a direct replacement but in stainless steel.
If I can not find one and they annoy me enough I will just find ones that are close and fabricate stainless mounting plates to use the existing holes on the body of the box. I only need to match the hole spacing on the lid. If not I will glass the original holes in mount what I find and re gel coat.

I sent ETI an email for their suppliers name today; would be nice if they made one in stainless, but I'm not holding my breath. Can get by for a few years with white Rustoleum.
On the broken door restraint, could get a solid rod of PVC or ABS from a plastics house and drill a hole in both ends to bridge the break. Maybe even a nylon bushing and Gorilla Glue?

I found a 10" replacement to resolve the awning window clearance issue on mine, but it is still plastic.

The whole rod went somewhere... I did find the plastic ones and can replace it with one, I just figured plastic cracks and the sun gets to it etc so replace it with a stainless one. I will take a picture if what I am doing works out. It most likely would not be feasible for most folks filling 2 of the 4 holes in on the stainless one is not something most folks know how to do or have the tools etc to do it. Worst comes to worst I will make some stainless plates drill and tap them for the catch's pattern and use the existing rivet holes to mount them then just use machine screws to the plate. Still only the 4 holes per mount and easy replacement later if it gets bent etc.

One other avenue that could be pursued would be to take the latches off and find a shop that would strip the paint and chrome them for you. Motorcycle and car people have this done, there must be a way. Cedar Rapids Iowa was the home of George Nissan the inventor of the Nissan Trampoline. They had a factory here and a chroming operation. If you knew someone who worked there back in the day you could get ............... chromed. Alas no more factory, too many broken necks in school gyms.

Yeah it could be chromed the rotating pin and the threaded part I am not so sure of the cost I think would be prohibitive and as you said if you can find a place to do it. I am not to the point of fixing them yet lol let me get the door latch done, the spare tire hard cover brackets done and so on lol

I know what the difference is between these two processes but how can you tell in a finished product without the original description? Do painted latches rust and powder-coated latches not rust? Just curious here. Also, wouldn't the chrome latches pit as has been a problem on the door hinges?

Powder coating is in the description of the one I ordered; by enlarging the pics I could see that it was powder coating by the penetration around the fastener heads compared to the ETI painted parts. Powder coating will last far longer than just paint, especially on the edges of a painted part. The parts ordered also had a ruler in their pictures so I could confirm dimensions and hole-to-hole spacing. Will know when they arrive next week whether it's a perfect fit or not.
