I put a configured air tag in the trailer and have a question on where you all put them in your trailers.
Should I put it under the dinette seat, or somewhere up high, like in an upper cabinet taped to the ceiling?

It appears there is an Android app that will work with Air Tags. Anyone have any experience using an Android phone?

I use the very similar Tile tags with our Android phones. had to find my wife's keys again today. knew they were in the house, just didn't know where.

I think higher is better, as with any transmitter. Then a passing iPhone will have a better chance of detecting the AirTag and relaying its location.

AirTags, who is using them
What a wonderful world, I just read a story the zombies are now using them to stalk women and steal cars. I’m sure you can add campers to that list.
If you don’t have the newer iPhone or use an android you won’t be alerted you are be tracked.

Well there has been lots of discussion over AirTags on Trailers. Over a year ago I purchased four AirTags at Costco.
One of those tags was taped inside the black water vent cap on my 15 B.
On the way to Rally in the Valley in May the cap blew off west of Winthrop Wa on Hwy 20
Over the months the AirTag kept reporting its location laying along the Hwy.
On our return from a near 3000 mile trip around Idaho, West Yellowstone we decided to try to find the cap.
Using my wife’s cell phone we pulled off the Hwy near the reported location.
She pressed find tag and a locator arrow popped on the screen and directed us to the AirTag.
The cap had been run over and was in pieces, the center with the tag still attached was in the grass along the Hwy.
In over a year all the AirTags have reported their location without fail. We had another tag on the trailer, one on generator and our small dog. Through out our trip the AirTag s reported where they were through three states without fail.
So if you are looking for cheap tracking of your items. Look at AirTags.
And yes they do report there presence at some point. But it took 3 months.
Here’s the missing cap , what’s left with tag taped in center.

That’s amazing. I don’t have any air tags. Your experience is proof they work. I might get some.

I think the success is in the large volume of apple users and users of IOS devices. The fact that it was logging in with devices in cars going by at 60 miles per hour is crazy.

Both my dogs are wearing Air Tags, and I've seen a few other doggo's in my 'hood with them on as well. Cheap insurance in the land of forests, camping, bears and cougars.
But the guilt trip displayed on my iPhone when I leave them behind at home - the two of them are reminding me "You left without us ".

I hate that Airtags are an apple only thing. My tablet and phone and my wife's phone are Android, so we're stuck with Tile, which I use on her keys and wallet and purse that she's always misplacing, and it works well enough within range of our own devices but I don't think is good for wide area tracking as the density of Tile users is far lower than the density of all iPhone users.

Yes we have tile on our keys. Works well for that in the house.

IMHO, it would be cool if Google bought Tile, and integrated the reporting module into Android, then it would work pretty much like airtag does, as there are about as many Android devices as iThings.

Worldwide statistics are pretty meaningless for theft or loss tracking. Seriously do you care how many of a particular operating system phone exists in Australia, China, Europe or India when you're only concerned about your trailer/keys/dog/wallet in... North America?

I have 3 AirTags deployed, one in my fiddle case, one in my mandolin case and one in the trailer. They work very well

Went to Disney World last November. Placed an AirTag in my backpack.
When it was misplaced and started to enjoy Disney on its own venture, I was able to track it down. Got the pack “back”. It had been rifled through but everything was still inside. At first they said we don’t have your backpack. So I listed all the items in it. The AirTag worked that time.

I have AirTags in my trailer, vehicle keys, dog, luggage. I find them handy, reassuring when the aircraft is lifting off and I can see my luggage is on board.
Our trailer is kept in a commercial storage facility several acres in size, well off a county road, outside in summer, inside in winter. I can see where it is in the yard or the building anytime. Generally the position is reported 5 or 6 times a day, as an Apple user passed by.
I find it handy and inexpensive for me.
