Hi Claire,
The 17b is designed only to sleep 3. Perhaps you could put a small third person on the floor at night if noone wants to use the bathroom!
A 17A sleeps 4 but man, would it be crowded.

I believe a gaucho bunk could possibly be an option to provide a bed for a fourth person in the 17B although it would have had to have been added during the build process.

Hi all,
It would be for two adults and two small children and the plan is to use it for four of us until the kids reach their teens and no longer want to camp with us... . I expect the majority of time we will use the trailer for short weekend trips with occasional one or two weeks trips if we have enough holidays. With work we don't have the luxury of doing anything longer than that
Originally I even considered getting a 13 boiler/trillium/u haul. But after reading this forum I've decided to upgrade straight to an escape!
This will be my first trailer and i appreciate any feedback.
Where we live now the storage space is rather limited and also the max towing capacity for my SUV is 3500...so we are not considering anything bigger than 17...
Thanks again folks!! And please if anyone is considering upgrade themselves to bigger trailer and wants to retire their 15 or 17 please pm me!!

I built bunk beds in my 17b out of pvc pipe. Took me about 4 hours with a chop saw to build a top bunk. They worked great for two years, and it only took me 10 min to remove them when it came time to sell. No evidence remained that there ever was a top bunk. Otherwise, the 17b doesn't really work too well for 4.

Karen's right - a 17B with a gaucho bunk would sleep 2 adults and two kids well.

Probably not too many used 17B's running around with the optional gaucho bunk. Found my PVC bunk bed mod to my previous 17B. Very easy and inexpensive to do this one.

Nice job Greg!! That configuration, plus a Travasak sleep system for the larger dinette, would be perfect for a family of four.

Thanks, Jan. It did work very well for us and our kids were 14 and 11 at the time so not toddlers. The 11 yo was on the top bunk and she was approx 80-90lbs then, but I think it would have easily gone to about 150lb.

Yes it was basically permanent. We did end up going to a permanent bed in the back as well, because we just ate outside.

Can anyone tell me how wide the "double" bed is in the 17B? I can't see any dimensions on the web site.
