That is one fancy substantial house for someone going to the country. No downgrading for you. Looks somewhat Italianate. Very nice. Bet you can't wait to get into it.

Not too fancy, but yeah a nice house. Hard to find a custom built stone and stucco home in the 2700sf range anywhere in the country for mid 300s, but it's doable here.

If it wasn't for our hot summers, we'd have way too many folks moving here because of the low cost of living. That would inevitably lead to much higher housing prices. So I guess, thank God for the heat. [emoji1]

Yes, I've seen photos of your home when you've shared some before, Jim. A truly beautiful place you have there.

Hip roof-- very nice. They look good and are wind-resistant. Very popular in Florida.

Nice. You're fortunate to get a construction crew as I imagine the contractors/workers are all flocking down to Houston area. After Katrina, we had a real hard time with that in AZ as they headed to Louisiana for the rebuild and prolific insurance $$.
Will be fun to watch the progress.

Low cost of living in this area also as we are very far from Dallas. Yes, that is a better price you are getting than many areas. Are you within an hour of San Antonio?

We are in more of a retirement area with Lake Texoma right near. Summer was okay this year here, never exceeded 100 for a change. (Apparently reached it one day.) I am sure you must have been into the 100s. It was 104-105 some days here last year but we just missed them.

Anxious to see your house when it gets going.

Yes, in fact, about 35 minutes north of San Antonio airport, which was kind of a requirement since I travel for work.

We love the Lake Texoma area, one of our favorite places in north Texas.

So, after going round and round with the ACC where we are building, it looks like we now have a site plan that meets their requirements. One of the weirder requirements is that the RV garage we are building must be placed behind the rear sight line of the house, and that none of the garage doors can be seen from the roadway. Long story short - we had to relocate the RV garage. The land is quite sloped, which is one of the appeals because it affords a nice elevated view. But, that same slope means that in complying with the site requirements, the RV garage will be a bit tricky to back a trailer in. So, using that as an excuse for something I wanted anyway (lol), I went ahead and ordered a Parkit360. 25% off plus an additional $100 off for 'black friday' means it was a pretty good deal. Can't wait to try it out.

That is actually a common requirement in a city as far as placement but not the doors!! Surprised that they are using it for you out in the country though.

You can go practice with your Parkit! And let us know how it goes! Another early Christmas present for someone.

Must be a tough getting all that red tape completed for Washington, DC officials?

That sounds like a very good project!

I actually did not think that you could grow much in Wisconsin, at least northern. I have been told that Door County just cannot grow a number of crops because the growing season is too short.

The growing season is shorter, but having been to northern Wisconsin several times, I can tell you they grow all kinds of things. Corn, wheat, soybeans, etc. - all of which are high quality. It goes without saying that Wisconsin is famous for their dairy farms, and the northern part is no exception. But the areas I visited in the north are really famed for their cherry orchards - some of the best in the world.

I'm glad for the wide range of temperatures and climates in the US. It means more agricultural diversity than any place in the world. You simply can't grow good cherries in Texas, or cotton in Wisconsin.

Good choice Robert! With this tool you won’t be restricted to backing into you garage. Depending on your needs, you will have the option of pulling it in forward or backing it in for a quick getaway.

Good, I was wondering why anyone would even consider trying to start a citrus orchard AKA grove with greening not under control.
Your first message had you planning a grapefruit orchard.
